So I know originally the Joker was supposed to be a standalone film, but recently Joaquin Phoenix said he'd be open to doing more. I feel like the most natural way to continue the Joker's journey is to have him face batman. Matt Reeves is obviously getting ready to shoot his Batman (reboot). Let's say it turns out good, which I think is possible, could a sequel to his batman movie be Robert Pattinson's Batman facing off against Joaquin Phoenix's Joker? I like the idea of an older Joker facing a younger batman. I know obviously there would be issues likely having to do with continuity and tone. However, I think Christopher Nolan showed you don't necessarily need an R rating to be bold and gritty. You can make a good film within the PG-13 guidelines. I also feel like you could bridge the two Gotham worlds together. You could even bring in Todd Phillips as a producer to help make the combination more seamless. Just a thought anyways.

It'd be cool if that happened. And yeah, ratings don't matter. Story does. That's how The Dark Knight wound up a better crime drama than most mob movies these days that are actually rated R.
