Boak! Lemonade works better! Same idea... dilute shitty wine and take the acrid edge off it. Not a fan of cabernet sauvignon or Shiraz... Like smoother wines like malbec and pinot noir. If someone gives you a Cabernet and you are patient, store it for a few years, horizontal of course, and then try it. Amazing how that stuff ages.

Wise man. I never let my reds breathe. Just drink straight away. I'm wrong to do that though. I usually only drink half a bottle a day though and I do sometimes notice the wine tastes differently on day 2. It hasn't been breathing though ... just in the bottle with the cork on. I'll buy a wine decanter next time I see one in a charity shop, give it a try. Didn't Our Lord tell us to take no heed of worldly things... Follow him and he will provide. £1.99 at the local hospice shop...

I'm being brave and branching out sports board wine club buddies...
I'm just about to try an Italian sparkling rosé... Spumante Rosata Brut 🤷♀️

Quite nice, but I would like it a bit redder and sweeter if that makes sense. Still, I can imagine myself drinking something similar sat on the porch in summer, or out on a picnic.

You need to try Cava. I guarantee you'll enjoy it more than Italian sparkling rose.

Redder and sweeter sounds like the Rosa Regale.

I picked up a California Merlot from Tesco yesterday for £6.15. Turner Road Reserve it's called. I poured it into a carafe and put it to one side since I had some Black Tower from the weekend to finish off. I have just had a glass of the Merlot and have been pleasantly surprised. With a lot of unknown wines I sometimes find my self drinking the bottle trying to find the flavour. In this case, I will drink the bottle because I've found the flavour. I can taste plums and I guess the wine crushers washed their feet before doing their "Dance of the Winos" I will buy some more of this.

I'm not a big fan of sparkling wine. Never tasted Cava I like champagne and cava. Good stuff. Some Proseccos and Astis are OK too. Some of the Southern Hemisphere bubblies are very tasty too. But if you’re not into the taste of those types of wines I can understand. Ya bas!

Going fusion for lunch today... A 2018 fairtrade Bonarda-Malbec from a co-operative in the Andes. 'A wine of impressive depth and complexity'. Let me know what you make of this. I'm suspicious of the volume of Malbecs on the market It must be good... I've bought another bottle for Friday lunch today 😉 It's very smooth drinking. I think you're like me, not a fan of Shiraz and Cabernets, too sharp and acidic... This is a nice what I would call almost semi-sweet full bodied wine. Big on taste, goes down easy 👍

Here we go then... A bottle for our resident fizzy boy Carl LaFong coming up now... Cava Rosado... Spanish, an alluring nose of red currants and fresh summer fruits. With a palate of ripe strawberries, raspberries, this is a mouth watering aperitif... apparently 🤷♀️ We'll see 🧐

It's a Co-op home brand wine, from Sant Sadurni winery, Spain.

Only 4/10 in a Guardian review: This literally explodes out of the bottle and, for the first few frothy gulps, effervesces away to nothing. As it settles, like bad champagne it tastes very dry, acidic and narrow in its flavours of lime cordial, sharp, underripe lemons and shrivelled grapes. Later, you get brief flashes of peach, sticky strawberries and even bready champagne-like notes, but you have to concentrate hard to detect such nuances. Far more so than you will want to at a Christmas party. 4/10 www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2017/dec/14/cava-taste-test-best-bargain-fizz-christmas-supermarketIt was OK I thought. Wouldn't pay full price for it though, £9. I paid £7.50.

That's two fizzies I've tried now.
Still not quite getting it 🤷♀️
It's alright, can see it being great for summer picnics.
I need to try @homergreg's proper fizzy red recommendation ting innit.

Trying some of that Prosecco that everyone bangs on about.
White fizzy, new for me.
It's quite nice, better than the sparkling Rose I tried.
Can see why it's so popular... Quite a fruity taste, not too dry, not too sweet.
Nothing to rave about IMO, but again will be a very nice summer afternoon picnic tipple.
