Carlos Beltran not only has no managerial experience and no coaching experience, but the guy barely speaks English. I don't get this hire. The Wilpons are only interested in yes-men and someone who will basically follow Brodie's lead, whether it be into the fire or otherwise. That's why Girardi and other more established options were never real considerations.

Jake Arrieta exercises his option to remain with the Phils for $20 mil.
I'd like to see the Phils go out and get a stud at #1 and slide Nola down to #2.
Load up on pitching this Winter Meetings Season
1. Cole 2. Nola 3. Hamels 4. Arrieta 5. Madbum
Then you throw the slop we've been rollin' with - i.e. - Eickhoff, Eflin, Velasquez, Pivetta in the pen as stretch relievers, setup men and experiment with Velasquez as a closer.
Age may scare some off - think Hamels is going to be 36 when the season starts - but he had a decent year with the Cubs last year - and I thought Madbum was older but he's only 30. Gives us 3 righties and 2 lefties. Arrieta is slated to be ready opening day. Any injury issues you just slide one of the guys in the pen back to their original starting role.

As big of a fan as I am, I never cared much for Spring Training. Has a lot to do with the coverage of the games. The announcers pay attention for the first couple innings when the regulars are in. They players I've seen for years. In the later innings, when the rookies are playing, they interview the owner, the GM, the managers, the dude who cleans the urinals at the stadium.
And, in March, I don't need to see a bunch of assholes running around in shorts an t shirts, not after five months of winter.

Me, neither, but I have some friends who do. One always gets to a grapefruit league game.

The hot stove smells like curry excrement. Shall Gerrit Cole stay on the Astros to be close to Justin Verlander?

Keith Law (some dude)'s free agent ranking Rendon Cole Strasburg Wheeler Ryu Gregorius Donaldson Grandal Odorizzi JD Martinez Odds Per SportsBettingDime.com: Cole: Angels 4/1 Astros 4/1 Phillies 8/1 Yankees 9/1 Rendon: Nationals 1/2 Rangers 8/1 Cardinals 9/1 Gregorious: Yankees 1/2 Brewers 6/1 Reds 7/1 Donaldson: Braves 8/5 Phillies 6/1 Cardinals 7/1 Noticed Moose wasn't on your list - but being if we struck out on Rendon and Donaldson - this site has the Phils as the favorite to land Moustakas at 5/1.

I don't see Cole coming back to the Astros after how he walked off the field and said he wasn't an employee anymore.

JD Martinez sticking around with the Red Sox. This gets a solid thumbs up at the Millar70 home office.

Phils have outrighted Jerad Eickhoff
Comes as a shocker to me - although a disappointment over the years and faced injury issues - they need pitching and they had him under control for one more year - very cheap at $1.5 million.
