The Gifted - This show lacks serious buzz. It is my favorite Marvel TV show and is the one best integrated into an already existing universe. It is far better than the tagline of a family on the run. It's not perfect and is kinda formulaic, but it handles the familiar tropes very well with the mutant twists.
Parts Unknown - Bordain is my favorite travel host in general and this iteration of shows he's been doing for ages is the best he's done. The feeling of the show is more organic and it does a very good job of integrating history, food, culture, and socializing. CNN gives him a lot of freedom.
I don;t think I've ever seen more animal slaughters. He was in the Congo for one of them (That show was infuriating due to their history. The Belgians were scumbags...& it never got much better.), and they were cutting chicken heads off on a boat with what look like something only slightly sharper than a butter knife.
The one I just watched from Sicily, they should a pig get shot in the head, it's blood spurting out of its hurt to make sausage with later, and then chopped in half with a big machete.
That said, food that I have never tried or even heard of in many cases has never looked so good.

Akira - If I had seen this movie before, I couldn't remember so I watched it on Hulu. It's pretty good. The visuals are impressive for its age. The story overall is easy to understand. It would seem to be easier to remake than Ghost in the Shell, so I'm not sure why it hasn't been done.

Philip K Dick's Electric Dreams - Amazon was promoting this heavily last year so it's odd that they dropped it without much fanfare.
I think it would be a disservice to say it's their take on Black Mirror. It's much more a sci-fi anthology series in the old school way we understand them, but it's difficult not to compare the two considering how close this release is to that.
Overall the stories are competent and look really great and polished. It feels like they spend more money than Black Mirror does. Although I love the special effects in Black Mirror, these are more fantastical.
My big problem with this is the feeling that they are cutting out a lot of story to keep it under an hour. There's not a lot of time given for character development and the plot will be mostly buildup which is great. They then take all of this wonderful buildup and suspense and wrap it up in a few minutes which is frustrating and especially since some of them could be fleshed out to actual series themselves.
Still there aren't enough sci-fi anthologies and this one is definitely worth sticking with.

I have just completed The Gifted and I can firmly say that it has been the most enjoyable Marvel series I've seen on TV and makes the Netflix shows just a wee bit more suckier.
My one and only hangup with the show is it is quite melodramatic, but the story is great and it has some great twists and turns.
Can't wait for the next season.

I think Barry is an amazing hero figure, and his show is built to be touching and sweet, but I think Arrow has the better action (I love it when those two are together though).
I prefer the DC universe over the Marvel one on TV so I like all of them so far. I wait for them to show up on Netflix.
I just think they have the comic book formula right & I think the Gifted is close to that although it needs more supervillains.

Top of the Lake - This one isn't underrated, but I sure haven;t heard of it before last week. No one seems to talk about it because I have so many questions and can;t find answers. It's fantastic. Just enough dread, violence, quirkiness, & humor to keep it interesting.
Elisabeth Moss has been in 3 great shows in 5 years. She may be my new favorite TV actress. She's great in this but her Australian accent is slight enough to make me think she's faking it.

Back in the Peaky Blinders groove. Finished season 3...solid. Watched one ep of season 4 and it was fantastic so I’m really looking forward to season 4 now.

I almost started watching Peaky Blinders and picked Top of the Lake. It’s very good. Moves pretty fast tho especially between seasons. Time passes and characters change a bit from season to season.

The Crown - It's beautiful. I'm not really sure if this will be something worth watching long term but the first episode was pert near perfect as a set up episode.
King George actor Jared Harris is soooo good in this episode. Was he even nominated for an Emmy? Amazing performance and it'll be a shame when he inevitably leaves the show.
I loved King's Speech and the show really feels like a sequel to that movie, but alas King George can;t be around forever. I'm not sure Elizabeth is enough to keep my interest although Lithgow as Churchill is also great but feels American or very Lithgowy which is not a bad thing necessarily.

Best scene of a great episode. I wish they had edited it a bit better because it's set up perfectly. I can't get it out of my head for some reason.

Harry Potter - HBO has the whole series so decided to hunker down and watch it. What can I say. Overall it was highly enjoyable. I was assuming Prisoner of Azkaban was going to be my favorite since it's directed by Cuaron and it is quite good. I loved the use of time travel in itand the way it's filmed is the best of the bunch. However, the best one is Goblet of Fire. It really felt like a game changer, the relationships felt stronger, and also had the best action. The crowning achievement is not the action scenes which were pretty standard, & the villain was nothing special. It was the friendships developed. I completely bought into the three main characters being best friends and loved that Hermione & Harry were platonic . My order of preference Goblet of Fire Prisoner of Azkaban Half Blood Prince Order of the Phoenix Deathly Hallows 1 primarily edging out two for the animation of the Deathly Hallows story Deathly Hallows 2 Sorcerer's Stone Chamber of Secrets
I wouldn't grade anyone of them below a B though.

Everything Sucks - This starts out as a mediocre non-sci-fi Stranger Things and quickly turns into a great show. It's weird in that they get the twists out of the way pretty early in the series and then get to spend time on developing the characters.
Both the kids and the adults are well laid out and there are some happy moments and heartbreaking ones. It's a short series. I got through it in a weekend.

Hateful 8 - I hated this movie. So why is it here?
Because it is the best looking movie I've ever hated.
It's perfectly directed, scored, & filmed. The acting is on point and especially from Walter Goggins basically playing a more racist version of his character Boyd Crowder in Justified.
When they aren't in the lodge, the scenes are stunning...STUNNING. I need to visit Wyoming one day.
That aside, everything else is pretty ugly and pointless. I hated everyone except for a few that were murdered before I got to know them. I could not get past how despicable every single one of them was. I didn't care who won and, aside from typical tension, would have been fine with a bomb dropping on the lodge and blowing everyone up.
The film is way too long but it allows for Tarantino's dialogue skills to shine a bit. But again, it all pointless except to show why there's no reason to care about these people.
It's definitely no Kill Bill.

I wouldn't grade anyone of them below a B though. Goblet of Fire was my favorite novel...and initially I disliked the movie because it could never be as good as the story it was based on. But I’ve started to like it more over the years. I still think the best film was Deathly Hallows 1, the Nagini scene was downright creepy! I loved it! And the movie as a whole was pretty solid. Chamber of Secrets was always one that I liked a lot too. The spiders were good, the whole revelation of Tom Riddle, the whole thing was lots of fun.

This is one QT film that has grown on me more with each rewatch. I’ve seen it about 3 times and the first time I was mildly disappointed but with each rewatch I like it more and more. I still think the film would’ve been far better off being told start to finish rather than this weird mystery angle with a flashback sequence. The revelation on who the ‘bad guys’ were was pretty flat and even the motivation for the Hangman to think there was someone from her gang among the people there had to weight to it until the poisoning. There was no trigger scene to set off the notion than anybody was lying to him, he just assumed it based on nothing and that always bugs me about it. But I liked Samuel L Jackson’s character...and Walton goggins.
