Thor Ragnarok...very enjoyable. It’s got holes and glosses over a lot but it’s a Marvel movie so I know what I’m getting. Paradox...not good but figured I’d mention it anyway. Terrible acting, bad sfx...but it’s a time travel movie so those can be fun somtimes. It had Zoe Bell in it...she’s a common Quentin Tarantino gal. But not really much else. Though I liked Thor Ragnarok, I didn't much like the lighter tone to it. It felt like they wanted to add some Guardians of the Galaxy/Deadpool kind of humour, which, in my opinion anyway, doesn't quite fit with the god of thunder. He has always been one of my favourite Marvel characters, so maybe that's why I didn't like the flippancy of it.

I watched a few movies this weekend. Thor: Ragnarok - First off, I did like this movie. That's why I'm writing about it. Things I likes Thor - the lighter tone to his character. I would argue Thor always had comedic elements that combated with the more regal nature of who he was. Hulk/Thor battle - Lived up to my imagination Valkyrie whose name I forget - Clearly a love interest since Sif has disappeared from the movie Hela - Kate Blanchett is awesome, as is often the case, and I wish they sent more time on her Jeff Goldblum - It's always nice to see him loopy. Things I dislikes The Marvel hordes - I truly despise this now. Way too many of their movies requires an army of mindless clones to disintegrate and blow up. Hela is powerful enough to kill a whole army by herself and yet she still needs an army of the undead? A Marvel movie is automatically going to be knocked a full point if I see them. They add nothing to the story. Story - The story was fairly inconhesive. I must have blocked Avengers 2 & Thor 2 out of my memory because it took me way to long to wonder how Hulk got there or why Odin all of a sudden felt the need to die Comedy - It was very TV show like humor. I could feel the pacing. There were very few surprises. Loki - No really necessary. I get the impression Loki exists merely to give Hiddleston a reliable paycheck. Overall, I liked it, but it did not live up to the praise it's been receiving that now seems to be largely based on how different it is from previous Thors. I know I'm answering posts that were written months ago, but I've just gotten around to reading them, and I'd like to say I mostly disagree about how the lighter tone made Thor Ragnarok better. I've always felt that as the god of thunder, his films should be of a more serious tone. I don't feel that trying to be a clone of Guardians of the Galaxy, or Deadpool, works for him.

Manhunt: Unabomber
Coming soon after a viewing of David Fincher's Netflix series Mindhunter , watching the Unabomber drama was like being on familiar ground : that of the reluctant, but ultimately triumphant development of a strand of criminal profiling by US law enforcement in the face of terrible crimes. Manhunt is the true story of the hunt for perhaps the most infamous criminal of his type in American history and, while not as dark as Fincher's work, is still well worth a watch. For those who don't know, the Unabomber was the name given (because he notably attacked university and airport targets) to a serial bomber who operated, despite the best efforts of the authorities, between 1978 and 1995. Playing the criminal is Paul Bettany, giving a subtle performance, pitched at just the right level of intellectual arrogance, alienation and pity. Pitched against him is Sam Worthington's FBI guy working against the prejudices of his own department as much as his own personal demons. Bettany's part in the series grows as the narrative proceeds until the Unabomber's tortured psyche becomes almost as significant as the horrific events themselves, in a programme that has been called (by one of the original investigating team) "80 per cent accurate". At the heart of it all is the growth and testing of what is called 'forensic linguistics', a nascent investigatory science which, at the end proved as conclusive as finger prints. It is rare that reading comprehension is made so tense, or so exciting. The result is a compelling series which can be recommended. Apparently there is an earlier drama based on the Unabomber case (Unabomber: The True Story (1996)) with Dean Stockwell. Has anyone seen this?

Lost in Space (Netflix series)...I enjoyed it. I thought the cast was very good, the story kept the problems coming steadily. The visuals were cool. I liked that there were other characters outside the Robinson family. It allowed for further development outside just the family dynamic. The robot was awesome. All in all it was very fun to watch.

Avengers Infinity War - Saw it yesterday. SPOILERS I believe it delivers as a solid Marvel movie that maneges to blend all of the various movie franchises into one. However, it was not as momentous an event as I was led to believe. I think it has to do with me knowing this is a two part movie a la Kill Bill. We've only seen half of it, so what was supposed to be a mind shattering ending wound up feeling like the middle of a movie. The problem? Having Black Panther disappearing along most of the Guardians team. Yeah, right... But it was a great first half. I like how the Russos film action and despite Thanos periodic nerfing to make the battle interesting, the battle does remain interesting. Still the dude beat up the Hulk in hand to hand combat and now people like Black Widow & Captain America can do the same thing? The story was tight although I couldn't understand what happened to certain people such as Thor's crew. I might talk about it more later

I finished watching 13 Reasons Why and I'm still heartbroken and emotionally distraught over it. I just watched The Shawshank Redemption last night for the first time and boy o boy it was a damn good movie. I should have watched it years before. The good thing about it was the positive ending unlike most other good movies.

I just finished watching Hey Hey It's Esther Blueburger. This wonderful 2008 Australian comedy drama was written and directed by Cathy Randall. The film stars the adorably charming Danielle Catanzariti as Esther Blueburger, a 13 year old Jewish girl who struggles to fit in at her private school. When she meets a cool girl from a public school, Esther decides to secretly attend her new friend's school and pose as a Swedish exchange student. Over the course of the film, Esther has to decide where she fits in and who she wants to be. I really enjoyed this movie. Danielle Catanzariti does a fantastic job in the lead role and the supporting cast, including Keisha Castle-Hughes and Toni Collette, are all great. The screenplay is really well written, funny, insightful, and smart. I rate Hey Hey It's Esther Blueburger an 8/10 and would recommend it.

Barry - This show is just blowing my mind.
It has no business being this good and each episode is better than the last.
I'm so glad I was bored one day and had nothing else to watch.

Silicon Valley - I binged through all of the seasons over the past couple of weeks. It's actually how I started watching Barry. HBO is back as my Sunday viewing obsession.
It's solid and very funny. However, it is kinda depressing overall. Also, it seems odd that none of them are in any kind of notable relationship over and over again all while not focusing too terribly much on the hard work that goes into development.. The most recent episode kinda highlighted this.
I also have issues with the format which basically revolves around succeeding just enough to fail later for a big comeback to near success at the finale.

Community - Decided to bite the bullet and watch the series on Hulu.
This show blows my mind too. It may be a perfect sitcom...At least until season 6 when only half the original cast was there and it wasn't the same.
It's not my favorite, but still the episodes were overall fantastic conceptions. That bed sheet fort episode or the alternate dimensions one are so ridiculously good and most of them are only slightly below that whcth far fewer stinkers than the typical sitcom.

I fell in love with this show over the winter..... My favs: Paintball episodes. The alternate dimension stuff. The blanket fort episodes. D&D episodes. The Christmas Animated episode. The video game episode The zombie attack The G.I. Joe episode The Hot Lava episode The Law & Order episode was perfectly done. When they are in the psychiatrist office and they are replaying episodes after realizing that they were in a mental institute the entire time: The cut to Garret as a doctor with a deep voice saying "Now.. I want to see what happens when we take away one of their pens" cracks me the fck up. The pen episode. THE RUSSO BROTHERS AND DAN HARMON ARE FCKING GENINUSES... The very last post credit scene with the family playing the Community Board game is one of the best endings ever. #andamovie

War for the Planet of the Apes....Very solid ending to this trilogy, assuming they don’t make another. This may be one of my favorite trilogy’s honestly. Caesar is fantastic. Harrelson was great. I just love it visually and the soundtrack was perfect. Especially the ‘Nova’ parts that shine through with emotional moments. Very good film.

Last show to blow my mind
Atlanta - I can't even begin to describe what the show actually is. The first season was much more linear. The second season is doing it's own thing.
It has the loose plot of a rapper and his manager cousin trying to make it big, but it's closer to an anthology series that very loosely tells various stories.
The barbershop episode is frustrating and hilarious while the episode focusing on Glover's character and his baby mama is frustrating and sad. It seems like no one knows exactly what to do with their life and are just meandering while at the same time desperate to succeed or get ahead.
But the episode that makes me say "wat" the most is the one titled " Teddy Perkins"
Still not sure what I watched. It's kinda like if Michael Jackson was in Psycho, but that explanation doesn't do justice to one of the weirdest horror stories I've seen.
