Hi, Sulla. Have you seen the series about Hypatia? She was a great woman; it's sad how badly her life ended. Hi, Morgana, No, I didn't know there's a series. I've only seen Agora (2009). She had to be an exceptional woman to achieve the status she enjoyed at that time.
Agora is actually the series I meant.

Agora is actually the series I meant. Yeah, it's entertaining although I recall there are some historical inaccuracies. But almost all movies do that. For me, films pique my interest in a subject. Then I read about it from better sources. I think Rachel Weisz was a good choice to portray her. It's been several years since I last watched it.

Before I watched the series, I hadn't heard of Hypatia, so after finishing it, I went online to find out more about her. Have you by any chance seen Netflix's 'King'? I started watching it the other day. I got to where Hal was being this great peacemaker and thought 'huh?' but I let it go, then I got to where he challenges Hotspur (who would have made a much better King Hal, in my opinion) to a duel and kills him, I turned it off. They couldn't seem to make up their minds as to whether they wanted to go with Shakespeare or historical fact and in the end went with a bastardization of a bit of both and a huge chunk of rubbish.

Probably the biggest inaccuracy is the Great Library was already destroyed before Hypatia was born. Wiki has a short summary of others. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agora_(film)#Historical_accuracy
I haven't seen The King. It's very difficult to find a movie or a tv show which sticks to the known story. I guess the makers feel they have to spice it up or audiences will get bored. It's a shame really.

I hate how they try to jam PC into everything being made these days. Hal was no peacemaker, that's for sure. I've been reading about the library and it seems there were two libraries, the major one, and one that Britannica calls, the daughter. I think the latter one was destroyed much later than the bigger one, so perhaps the series wasn't so wrong?

Thomas Paine - for a man who had such a massive influence on the shaping of the modern world, he seems to get forgotten
Jack Churchill - a fascinating combination of heroism and eccentricity

Besides my aforementioned Erwin Rommel, Uncle Adolph also had some other interesting members of his general staff:
Heinz Guderian, who was in charge of the armored division.

Hi there! Well, that's what Joan claimed and I think she certainly believed that claim. I understand the hagiography of Katherine is part of Catholic tradition, but she allegedly lived over a thousand years before Joan was born. I remain skeptical that her spirit/ghost actually appeared in Joan's visions.

George H. Thomas (best ACW General) Napoleon I (painted with the "Hitler Paintbrush" not a saint but no Hitler) Field Marshal William Slim (a modest WWII general. Unique. And capable) Abraham Lincoln Was it AJP Taylor who described Slim as a modest man with very little to be modest about? The quote is one Winston Churchill made regarding Mr. Atlee.
