I was worried about this from the moment it was official Disney was buying out Fox. I knew this was coming. Disney not only does not give a shit about theatrical re-releases of the majority of their films but they also have had a history of not caring at all about home video releases either. Now one of the worst companies in terms of providing special features and extra content is in charge of Fox's video library. Hence, why I have a strong feeling that Disney simply won't even bother with many new releases of Fox titles on Blu-Ray or 4K. So that means no Abyss or True Lies any time soon.
And I am also worried about what the future of cinema is too if Disney keeps buying Hollywood studios and continues to absorb more and more IPs. Not only for the future of older films in the Fox or Disney library but for future films as well that will more than likely not be made because Disney dominates Hollywood and does not care for the plots provided, it does not fit into their box and it is too risky. Disney has become the epitome of greed. And while Walt did have his moments he honestly did not create Disney for money. He did it for the love of animation and of making people happy. If Walt could see how corporatized and greedy his company has become he would legitimately be disappointed. Iger needs to go and Disney needs an enema. But it will never happen. They are too big now. The mouse has gotten out of the house and is stomping around the country eating everything in its path. It is going to take Godzilla to stop the mouse now. And even the Big G might not be enough. Disney has gotten out of control. They are like The Blob. Someone needs to drive a liquid nitrogen truck into its ass and freeze it to save us all.
Even Kathleen Kennedy is to Lucasfilm, she needs to go too.

I definitely have no doubt Walt Disney created Disney for money. No question. But everything else I agree with.
It should already raise alarm bells on its own Disney buying Fox. It's just one of too many examples of corporate consolidation and mergers. Too many corporations are merging and buying up smaller companies. It's getting ugly. It's practically dystopian.

From what I've read most of the Fox catalog titles that weren't already being licensed for distribution by boutique physical media purveyors are off the table now. It's bad news for those of us that love classic films.

There are two particular horror movies from Fox that I always hoped would get a special edition blu-ray release; The Other and Race With The Devil. But I guess this won't be happening anytime soon.
Damn you to hell, Disney!

Walt Disney was an artist. The owners of Disney are not. I wonder though--Fox and Disney have a couple of things in common-they were both American-founded studios which kept the name of their founder. Also, when Mia Farrow was blacklisted in Hollywood for talking about Allen the only two US companies that hired her for anything were Disney (home video division) and Fox (the evil nanny in the Omen remake). The question with the other studios is whether they care enough about media creation to want to hold onto them or will they give it to Disney. You don't see the other companies fretting about Disney's takeover of theater screens which suggests they will not care if a day comes and Disney offers to buy them out. None of the companies are owned by people who care about film.

Damn you to hell, Disney! But who says they were going to happen anyway. Both were released on other labels - Eureka (in the UK for The Other) and Anchor Bay (in the USA for Race With The Devil). Basically you a damning Disney for something they haven't done but not Fox for not giving these films a wider release in over 40 years!!!

I was worried about this from the moment it was official Disney was buying out Fox. And if it wasn't Disney it would have been another major corporation Based on what? Did you know Disney release less films than any other major studio each year, and I can't recall them "not giving a shit" about them whatever that means....they are all pretty high profile and well released and promoted For example? Was Fox any better? There are a huge amount of the Fox back catalogue that they never even bothered to give a decent release on home media. Have you heard of labels like Criterion, Shout Factory, Eureka, Arrow etc? They don't produce films..they release other studio's back catalogues, and usually with extras the normal studios would rarely put care and attention into on their regular releases. A studio may own a back catalogue, doesn't mean they will, or have to release it on their own label As I mentioned in another post, you are damning Disney for something you think they won't do, and lamenting an alternative where Fox didn't do anything for years and you had no indication they were going to in the near future. It's also worth mentioning Disney will allow the screening of the Disney/Fox back catalogue at independent and rep theatres that do not show Disney first run films...a huge boost to the sort of theatres big studios and releases are being accused of killing off And what would happen to those IPs if Disney didn't buy them. No one knows if the Star Wars films would be better or worse under a different studio. And Marvel 's film rights were a fragmented state of affairs, with a history of selling off rights piecemeal, until Disney took a risk and bought it up. One thing that constantly surprises me is the view that Disney are some sort of big evil organisation whilst forgetting who actually owned Fox, the scummy things the corporation has been responsible for in the past and the political influence they have.

I had to double-check and make sure this wasn't a thread from 8 months ago.
Seems a moot point to be this upset still over a done deal.
Also, James Cameron was/is working on a new HD transfer of the Abyss. Chances are rather good we're going to be seeing a Blu/4K release in the near future.
I'm not a big fan of large corporations buying out the competition, but this thread is largely filled with hyperbole and personal bias. You'll still be able to buy/rent Fox titles. Don't worry.

I AGREE 1 MILLION PERCENT!
I've ALWAYS KNOWN that Disney buying Fox is a HORRIBLE DECISION. And we can see that Disney is going from bad to WORSE with all of these properties and studios they own! They're basically a monopoly and are biting off way more than they can chew.
