They certainly aren't short on fight sequences and they're still entertaining at times. But there's barely any story to the sequels and they keep doing halfass worldbuilding which somehow makes the movie worse because nothing fits together from scene to scene or film to film.

The first one for me, my #43 all time.
John as avenging predator is far more fascinating than John as prey in the sequels. It was arguably the freshest concept of film this decade, pared down & concise, pure action.
The sequels bit off more plot than they could chew I think. Still very good, just not nearly as tight.

First one. They get progressively nonsensical from there on out. That is why the 3rd is my favorite. It is much more abstract and therefor much more unique. It almost has a silent film era feel to it at parts and goes off into dream like territory. It also has the best action of the 3 by a long shot imo. The first John Wick is just a generic revenge movie as far as I'm concerned, whereas John Wick 3 is a survival movie. John Wick against the world. There was a point in the first movie where I just started to not care. Same with John Wick 2. John Wick 3 starts off interesting and never stops being interesting. In fact the longer it goes on for the more visually surreal it becomes. It is almost like the movie stops taking place in any kind of reality and is just taking place in John Wick's mind.

Surprised the first was losing, until I tied it at least. I admire the sequels for trying to broaden the concept, as the first is a pretty simple revenge movie. At the same time, that simplicity works in its favor, and this universe where every goddamned person alive is an assassin and there are all these checks and balances to assassinating and whatnot is hard for me to get into.

John Wick (2014)
I rank the three movies like this...
1)John Wick (2014) - 6.5-7/10 (within my Top 151 movies) 2)John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017) - 6/10 3)John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum (2019) so while I like all three, the series gets worse as it goes forward overall with the 1st movie being the clear cut #1 of the three in my mind.
p.s. I am a little surprised that the 1st movie is barely ahead of the other two in the poll with 4-3-3 so far and whoever voted 'they are all awful' most likely don't like action movies (or maybe they are one of those 'anti-Keanu' types of people who claim he's a "bad actor"(?)) as these are definitely better than most simple action movies.
NOTE: I have seen the first John Wick movie three times and it was on my 3rd viewing that it went from a 6-6.5/10 to a 6.5-7/10. I have seen the 2nd movie twice and the 3rd movie once so far.
