uk.ign.com/articles/2019/11/07/marvels-hawkeye-disney-plus-jeremy-renner-series-was-originally-a-movieMarvel Studios originally intended to make its upcoming Disney+ Hawkeye series a movie instead of a live-action TV show, according to newly promoted Chief Creative Officer Kevin Feige. During an interview with Bloomberg, Feige revealed that Hawkeye star Jeremy Renner originally had a deal for a solo movie, but Feige decided a Disney+ series would be a better fit for the character. Luckily, Renner was on board with the switch."[Renner] totally got it and said, ‘Let’s do it,’ ” Feige said. Reports indicate some of the upcoming Marvel TV shows in development -- Loki, WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier -- could cost the streamer upwards of $25 million per episode, which is more than HBO paid for Game of Thrones.

Robin Williams said even after 30+ years that he got called Mork more than any other name called out to him. He said movies were too separated. If you are on TV you are in peoples homes. You were an invited guest. I know there used to be a stigma for being on tv. Hell Tom Hanks used to tell up-in-comers not to do tv it will kill your career. There was still an upside to the celebrity in some regards. People felt closer to celebrities on TV. The stigma has changed obviously, but that connection is still there though. It just boggles the mind how much that stigma has changed in my life time. Fuck man $25m per episode. Never would've thought we'd hit that even with inflation.

Makes sense. Disney obviously wanted more exclusive shows for their streaming service.

Disney's practice since the 1940s is to build a shelf live into their product. Since their audience was families, they would re-release their movies every 7 years capturing the kids who had not seen Snow White or Bambi prior. Likewise, when VHS/DVDs came along. I'm not sure how this will work on the streaming service. A ten episode series will be 250 million. Yikes. That's a sizable budget for any film, but the running time will be 9 to 10 hours rather than two for a movie. Yeah they won't be able do the whole back in the vault trick anymore. This generation is used instant and complete access. If they start plucking titles off Disney+ it won't fly. Netflix gets away with it because they are paying licences for a lot of their content. So people are more likely to give Netflix a pass because they know if something is going off their service it's because the aren't paying for the licence anymore. People will bitch if Disney drops titles if they own the movies. So yeah they can't create scarcity by pulling product off of Disney+ to force people to buy the DVD.
