Sally Field's "You like me" bit. "Sincere" is not the word that first comes to mind with Gidget, the Flying Nun, but, okay, I can see where you're coming from. Maybe I should have used the word humble or modest instead.

What about Brando's speech for winning for The Godfather?

Barbara Trent, whose documentary The Panama Deception won in 1993. Her speech expressed her frustration at not being able to get the film more widely shown. Members of the "Hollywood liberal" audience booed her during her speech, apparently considering her an ingrate for not simply gushing out a thanks and leaving the stage quickly.

I always thought Louise Fletcher was very humble and sincere in her acceptance speech as Nurse Ratchet I wished the nominees would have smiled, rather than look so austere and Ann Margaret looked cat mean. I wonder if they knew they weren't going to win, so it was all a waste of time being there. Yes! They all looked so uptight and not all that friendly! Cat all mean, lol! Somebody posted that she (AM) looked like she was plotting world domination! That was so funny! And Carol Kane had definite some leopard zombie princess presence. I guess they took the Oscars to mean something slightly different than they way they are run today. I don't know. They have a very strong political mentality that they are operating from. Always such a big deal. I always enjoyed reading the picks from National Honor Society, which was the second big critics group award and formed in 1966. They have always had more interesting picks than the their AA contemporaries. And if for nothing else, they chose Sissy Spacek as Best Actress of 1976 for "Carrie", which was a very cool thing for them to do. But if nothing else, at least those nominees were not being hypocritical for caring about winning. Of course, they wanted to win! And it showed in their faces and somewhat honestly so. Some are better sports than others, I guess. Now they talk about all soul fullfillment and cry ridiculous tears. Halley Berry's acceptance speech for MB was teeth gnashing. Like my astute friend pointed out, she was NOT the first African American to win Nest Actress, in regards that she is supposedly half-Northweigan. (How embarassing for Norway!) I don't think I could be around her. And there is more than a passing resemblance between these two scenes. It is almost uncanny. What were they thinking?

It would have made it feel more like "friendly Competition", a phrase that has baffled me my whole life. Friendly as a Lucio Fulci movie.

Well, that is a great analogy, because there is always something sinister about arbitrary and forced competition. Well, I can't even convey how much you hit the nail on the head there, Toasted Cheese. Sinister, yes, an d all the more so for pretending that it is not being what it is being.... If one thinks about this premise of human nature for longer than 45 seconds, there are sure to be some chills going up and down your spine. I have always detested and loather and feared this aspect of being human. It is so, so creepy. This is a totally random analogy, but maybe that is precisely why we both find Ruth Gordon so captivating and charming in "Rosemary's Baby". I have always felt a little bit like Rosemary in that i would be the perfect lamb to the slaughter in how easily charmed I might find myself in relationship to something evil.

Evil comes in many guises and the devil charms. We live in a world where people are putting on a big front of one image, but are really the devil in disguise, or is that Prada, and mean something else. Evil, Devil, live and lived backwards. I guess when we start to look at our intentions and actions, then this is when we need to look at which way we are living or moving forward. Wow. That's very creepy. I have been on the street before and sensed evil presences and when I would look the person in the eye and saw that they glared right into me like points of fire, it was unsettling to say the least.

Wow. That's very creepy. I have been on the street before and sensed evil presences and when I would look the person in the eye and saw that they glared right into me like points of fire, it was unsettling to say the least. I can tell by their energy at times and can shudder in their presence. Cold and calculated arrogant notion of self. If only that fire would melt them. They are impervious to warmth. Look at the image of goodness Roman and Minnie put out, yet piercing eyes. Oh, Minnie and Roman! " Come on, in! Come on, in!"Yes,especially Roman, I would say. And I don't know if was a subtle touch or something more obvious and direct with the wall portrait - the one the Castevet's took down and left the clean space on the wall - and this was one of the first very creepy signs that there was something not quite right and it just kind of settled in your consciousness and stayed there. And then when Rosemary's has uncovered the diabolical plot and has armed herself with a big butcher knife and comes through the pantry closet and sees the real painting of Roman's satan worshiping dad, Adiran Marcato, and those eyes are very intense and something inmistkably evil and diabolical. And I do believe that the image of the demon's face/eyes while he is impregnating Rosemary is none other than very young Robert DeNrio. That would be cool if it's true.
