How did they made this very impossible movie seem possible?

They didn't. Anybody who went along with that idiotic premise is retarded.

I remember watching this film when I was a child and enjoyed it.
Different tastes, I guess.

One thing I never got is why did they make it a surgical procedure that actually cuts off a persons face? ? Why not just have a futuristic type of machine that somehow swapped their minds?

Right but this movie somehow does it where you barely have to add it in yourself. They were really good at making things that do not exist seem like as if they really could.

They didn't, I was 10 at the time and even at 10 this movie was ridiculous in it's attempt at even the concept, could have worked if say Cage & Travolta were similar in height and body type, but JT is clearly larger than Cage in height and frame, and how does the wife not notice her husbands body being different, are they just by chance the same size below the belt also? then theres the whole kid thing which is insane on top of everything else.
This is a fun movie and I like it but there is 0 ability for me to suspend my disbelief even as a child to buy this as a plausible story, atleast hire actors of a similar height and frame for god sake, this they went clearly more towards either who can act as cooky as either Travolta or Cage and that's how they got this pair, that being said I really like this movie despite itself.

Then how are you able to like the movie? The reason I ask is because if I am unable to suspend my disbelief then this causes a serious problem. Isn't the whole point that you are ignoring logic for the sake of entertainment? Isn't that what you are doing? Doesn't the whole movie just fall flat if you aren't able to "just go with it?" I think you do suspend your disbelief, but you don't realize that is what you are doing. I see it the same way you do and that is called "suspending my disbelief." The concept is ridiculous, but the movie is awesome in part because it is ridiculous. It gets to make up it's own rules and asks us to put logic aside. It seems that some people here are watching this movie with the impression that it is meant to be taken seriously. It isn't meant to be taken seriously. It is one of the most knowingly OTT action movies ever made.

I can suspend my disbelief into buying that ok in this world that this story takes place in they can transplant faces and alter the voices of people, so within the narrative of this movie I can buy they do that, but I cannot suspend my disbelief into thinking that they also shrink Travolta by 2 inches and restructure his body type whilst growing Cage by 2 inches or more and doing the same to his body, and that somehow Travolta's with doesn't notice her husband of 20 year's penis has now changed, that's where I have no ability to buy this, but I enjoy it the same way I enjoy Venom or Howard The Duck, not as good movies but entertaining ones, sometimes for the very ridiculous faults I just mentioned.
The story is stupid but Cage & Travolta being nutcases makes for a fun movie even if it's a nonsensical one.

Okay, I just disagree then. It isn't a stupid movie, because it does exactly what it meant to and you LIKE IT. That is the opposite of stupid. The story isn't stupid, it is intentionally ridiculous. There is a difference imo. If the stuff you mentioned was the ONLY ridiculous aspect of the movie then maybe I'd agree with you, but there are OTT ridiculous scenes throughout the movie separate from the stuff you mentioned. Without the "stupid" premise there would be no movie. I could get into a whole different discussion about how the entire movie would fail completely without the nonsensical main premise. Here it is. We watch the movie with a completely different mindset. The reason I like the movie so much is because of how gloriously OTT and nonsensical it is. That is the whole point. That why it stands out from other action movies. Venom is a dumb movie because it fails on most levels. Face/Off is a well written movie in context with the ridiculous premise. Venom and Howard the Duck are not.
