Hell of a thread so far. Anyway, my favorite is Edgar in King Lear. I don't see any heroes in any of Shakespeare. All the characters have their faults, but Edgar seems to be the closest to faultless. I would like to play that role before I get too old. I played the Duke of Cornwall back in '99, probably my least favorite character in the play but I had fun with it. So my top 5 would begin with Edgar.
1. Edgar 2. Prospero 3. Lear 4. Bottom 5. Shylock
Bottom 5: 1. Claudius 2. Katherine 3. Iachimo 4. Cornwall 5. Brutus
