A pretty good B movie starring Vincent Price. I don't think it was as meaningful or had as much substance as the remake, I Am Legend but there is something about it that makes it watchable and interesting. They should have had more with him and the woman he brings into her home. It just seemed too fast paced in some parts. Have you seen it? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Last_Man_on_Earth_(1964_film)

It's closer to the book than any other versions. At least they had the dog but I didn't think of a black poodle when reading the book.

Out of the 3 versions made, I like this one the best. Yeah, kind of cheesy, but for the time, not bad. I don't like the one with Charton Heston. I do like the one with Will Smith.

What is the version with Heston called? The Omega Man. Thanx. And thank you for your feedback on the Price version!

Will Smith had a dog. And was a hell of a lot more mournful when he felt like he had to euthanize it.
But he had the dog from the start.
In the book the dog shows up and he wants to keep it since the dog is the only normal being he has known for ten years or something. That made it more poignant. I think the dog just dies in the book (since you don't turn into a vampire automatically-you die first).
The most horrific thing in the Will Smith version are the vampire rats.

Thanx. And thank you for your feedback on the Price version! It's a typical Heston over-the-top, tough-guy character. Not really that good. Kind of corny, and so reminiscent of the times. I like him so much better in Soylent Green.

If he, Price, is immune then why kill the dog?

If he, Price, is immune then why kill the dog? He didn't kill the dog. The dog died and he put the stake in it so it wouldn't come back as a vampire.

Not bad. Cheap and pretty scrappy, if capturing some apocalyptic atmosphere - unlike succeeding movie versions with macho man Charlton Heston and loud mouth Will Smith. 5/10

The Charlton Heston version could have been great. The vampires looked better but they deviate so much from the book. Actually if you want to talk about forced diversity, that's a good film to demonstrate it's nothing new. I find Paul Koslo's character an especially annoying addition.
