"I thought Christmas only comes once a year." What do you all think of this James Bond film? How has it held up after 20 years? I haven't seen it since it first came out on video, but I remember various things like that guy with a bullet in his brain, Denise Richards, Sophie Marceau, Q's final appearance, the return of that Russian guy from Goldeneye, and that giant saw blade that I think cuts Bond's BMW in half (Or was that from Tomorrow Never Dies?).

It gets a lot of hate, but I like it a lot. Bond movies were still fun at this point, before the Craig era of darkness and gloom began.

I always get the title of this one and 'Tomorrow Never Dies' mixed up. That's about all I recall of it. The Brosnan Bonds were not very memorable for me.

I like it well enough although it has its shortcomings. The pre-titles sequence, which to date is still the longest, is hands down one of the series' best and the boat chase scene is exhilarating. I definitely like the title song by Garbage. After the action-driven Tomorrow Never Dies, I appreciate the movie for having some psychological nuances, but the silly humor gets in the way.
The first hour was pretty good, but the second half was a let-down. Denise Richards was bad casting as a nuclear scientist who is only named Christmas Jones for a silly joke at the end. Sophie Marceau was delightful as Elektra King. Also, some of the action sequences felt lacking in excitement, although I do like the helicopter saw blade scene. Personally, I give the movie a 6/10.

One of the worst of the Bond movies. It shares a 1/10 rating with three other Bond movies that I think were even worse (Never Say Never Again, A View to a Kill, and Casino Royale 2006).
Just not inspired or inspiring. Bond killing a beautiful chick makes this a movie no heterosexual man could relate to. I know he had his reasons, but simply crippling and capturing her would make her ineffective.
The very worst is still "A View to a Kill". Everything is boring and stupid and hate mongering about it. The plot goes nowhere, the action is dull, the wit is dull, it has what is undeniably the worst ever Bond song, sounding like fingernails on a chalkboard more than music, the worst song ever from a usually inspired artist. Even the title is stupid. What in the world is "a view to a kill"? Something that Beavis and Butthead would say?

Maltin Movie Guide Review:
The World is Not Enough - 2.5 out of 4 stars
"OK if typically overlong James Bond outing has 007 avenging the murder of an industrialist who was a close friend of M's. Brosnan is fine, as are the action set pieces, but the film allows M (Dench) to look foolish, and absurdly casts Richards as a nuclear physicist (in shorts!) with lots of laughable dialogue. Carlyle is a good villain in an underwritten part; Marceau is delicious as Elektra. Llewelyn's final film as Q."

I like the pair of villains in this one the most out of the Brosnan era. It's is unique for having a central female villain, rather than a henchwoman (Mayday) and I really liked Sophie Marceau's performance. And I really liked Renard's character as well even though scientifically, it makes no sense with the no-pain gimmick.

Saw parts of it on television. Seemed worse than Tomorrow Never Dies but better than Die Another Day. I like the idea of a female Bond villain and it's a shame that hasn't been done more often.

Has some good parts but the plot is way too over complicated (I’m still not sure what the movie is really a bout) and Denise Richards is truly bad

John Cleese as Q's successor made me do a perfect, dead center spit take on to the back of the seat in front of me during the ski jacket with air bag demonstration scene when I saw it with my BFF on opening night.

At one point I thought The World is Not Enough (1999) along with the other Brosnan Bond movies were among the top Bond movies in general, but none of them hold up for me anymore as of Dec 2014/Jan 2015, which is the last time I seen all four Brosnan Bond movies and all four of them are no longer worth re-watching. in fact, I could not even finish re-watching The World is Not Enough (1999) in Jan 2015 due to boredom and turned it off @ 1hr15min.
so the Brosnan Bond movies for me at this point in time are scored like this...
-GoldenEye (1995) - 5/10 (Thumbs Down. this was my #1 Bond movie at one point in the past (which now goes to Skyfall (2012) (9/10))) -Die Another Day (2002) - 5/10 (while I no longer like this I used to think is was underrated and it is in a way as some people seem to think it's horrible and it's not THAT bad) -Tomorrow Never Dies (1997) - 2/10 (could not finish due to boredom and killed it @ 45min or so) -The World is Not Enough (1999) - 2/10 (could not finish due to boredom and killed it @ 1hr15min. NOTE: Sophie Marceau's top movies are Braveheart (1995) (10/10) and Anthony Zimmer (2005) (6.5-7/10) )
p.s. the only Brosnan movie in general that still stands out for me at this point in time is... The Matador (2005) (8/10 ; within my Top 39 movies).
