I think Roger Ebert put it best; it's a great urban western. It's got a lot of stables of westerns, such as vigilantism and revenge. I can't I'm too well-versed in John Singleton work (besides maybe Shaft) but I'd say this is definitely his best film and it's so well-crafted and paced. Singleton doesn't dwell to much on the mom or how the brothers came to be, rather, they're introduced through the eyes of another character, the audience essentially, and starts the film with a bang. The action is first-rate, the blizzard car chase being a good example and the dreary and cold Detroit setting feels so visceral. An underrated early 2000's film.

It’s entertaining. The leads shouldn’t work together as well as they do.
