As a remake of a new hope, which is what it basically is it got it wrong in one way, which is.
And this is my opinion, which is. The whole story of a new hope is pretty much an excuse for some cool special effects. I don't take these movies too seriously so pretty much that is all they are.
The special effects that made the movie popular in nineteen seventeen seven which where impressive at the time, and don't get me wrong, I still think the original movie holds up. So basically here's the problem.
If you remake it, the main draw of the original movie was the special effects, so that doesn't translate to 2015.

Good point. You killed me with the dual, "which is" lol. So good. 😂 Take notes, people. This is masterclass. It's all about the details.

Stormtroopers, Vader, sand people, spaceships--so this was giving something new and different. Storywise--there is nothing special or groundbreaking. The story and dialogue was always regarded as middling. Even Harrison Ford and Alec Guinness thought so.
You can't easily impress people with new FX like they could back then. Avatar 2 3 whatever is going to try.

were you impressed by the cgi in the prequels? No. I liked the saber fight but that was about it. The characters and story was worse than the OT so one couldnt even be satisfied there. Lucas waited too long. He should have started making new Star Wars films by the early 90s. If he had, he could have beaten a number of films to FX milestones like Jurassic Park, the Fifth Element etc..

the story was better than the OT, but the execution was bad, wasted Darth Maul for no reason

the story was better than the OT, but the execution was bad, wasted Darth Maul for no reason The story of two guys looking after a whiny kid is a poor adventure story. The story of Obi Wan before Star Wars just isn't very interesting. It might have been if they took ideas from El Cid or Lawrence of Arabia or something. It is a case where less is more. Some of the ideas were good like the water planet and an evil droid, but there was just way too much lame. You heard of the Boer Wars? This was the Bore Wars.
