So we start off with A New Hope. And at first it seems like just a generic good vs evil sci-fi film. We are told about what a horrible villain Darth Vader is. And what a great hero Luke's father was. "He was the best star pilot in the galaxy", says Obi Wan. Ironically it was Darth Vader who proved to be a great pilot during the Death Star battle. The Death Star is symbolic of an egg. When an egg is fertilized only one sperm cell survives. Just like how Luke is the only pilot that manages to blow it up.
We continue with The Empire Strikes Back. In this we find that Darth Vader is just as menacing as ever. Even force chocking two of his own men to death in his search for Luke. While Vader is showing himself to be more of a monster we still get told these great things about his father. Until the climatic duel where Vader mutilates Luke by chopping off his hand moments before revealing to him that both he and his father are one in the same. How ironic. While Leia loses Han Luke loses his hand, as well as his father's lightsaber.
We flash back with The Phantom Menace. In this one the Star Wars galaxy never seemed so alive. We have lush forests, underwater cities, a detail city planet as well as desert one. That's four fully realized environments in one film. The lore is incredible. Lucas truly is a genius. We even get to see the Jedi in their prime. And young Anakin seems like such sweet and nice little kid its hard to believe him and Vader are the same.
We flash forward with Attack of the Clones. The movie is brilliant. Why? Because this is where we see Darth Vader not as a villain, but as a hero in Jedi Anakin Skywalker. This blew people's minds. So much so that many people hated it cause they just couldn't imagine Vader as a young man in love. It is also revealed that the Storm Troopers are clones of bounty hunter Boba Fett's father. Anakin loses his mom as well as his arm but gains a wife.
All this culminates in Revenge of the Sith. It is finally revealed that Anakin turned to the dark side to save his wife from dying. Which fulfills what Kenobi said to Luke, "I don't want to lose you the same way I lost Vader." When Anakin kills children it's almost like he's killing his own childlike innocence in that the "younglings" look like he did in Ep. 1. Kenobi maimed him in a duel as he is severely burned. As he takes his first breathes as Vader, Padme takes her last as she gives birth to Luke and Leia.
We conclude with Return of the Jedi. Luke discovers Leia is his twin sister. So we get a second Death Star representing an egg dividing during mitosis to produce a twin. When the Ewoks help the rebels defeat the Empire it's almost like the children Anakin slaughtered coming back to avenge themselves. When Darth Vader over throws the Emperor the Sith lightning illuminates his skeleton showing he's still human underneath. When Luke removes Vader's helmet it's like removing his father from life support. And he suffocates just as he strangled and suffocated other's in his life. Lucas = Luke. George Lucas made this and a lament for his own father. The chosen one prophesy is included to hope that his father died for something and not in vain as peace is restored to the galaxy in the end. Really incredible films.

Seeing this post reminds me of the ad for "From Star Wars to Jedi" on the VHS trilogy my family owned in the 90's. The nostalgia...

I agree with the IV, V, and mostly VI, however, the special editions are akin to a master painter looking at his work 20 years later and deciding to add some "flourish" that wasn't necessary.

Everything's art. The real question is, are they masterpieces of cinema? And that answer is, no.

Yeah, it blew people's minds to see Vader as a hero in AotC. A petulant, whiny, narcissistic incel hero. Ben Kenobi always said he was a good man before he turned.

I really like your simplistic childlike innocence take on the PTs. If Luca$h had really kept it that simple and with better acting and writing and keeping out the bullshit of midichlorians and the death of Padme where Luke was there and doesn't remember her but somehow Leia does and other plot holes etc, it could have been better. Since it isn't and we got what we got, I just figure them to be dreams and nightmares of Luke which is the only way to explain all the bullshit of them.

Renowned artist Chris Ofili made some well received pieces involving putting shit on canvas. So I guess yes, the prequels could be described as pure art

But other rebels survived, and Chewie & Han...and Darth Vadar...are they sperm as well. Aern't Luke's torpedoes the sperm as they are the ones that destroy the egg, which would really make luke, or his X-Wing fighter the penis! And anyway, what kind of sperm destroys an egg! This is all a bit confusing

The Lucas trilogies are unique in terms of art design, music, world building and storytelling.
Star Wars is the only blockbuster franchise that shows the downfall of democracy, the rise of dictatorship and the corruption of the heroes.
This delineates auteur art from formulaic, corporate entertainment.

Yeah, it blew people's minds to see Vader as a hero in AotC. A petulant, whiny, narcissistic incel hero. Ben Kenobi always said he was a good man before he turned. Kenobi? Ben Kenobi? I wonder if you refer to that old hermit who constantly lied to Luke, pitting Luke to kill his father making Luke believe that he destroys his father's murderer? Not even telling the truth when Luke ran in Vader's obvious trap - you do not need enemies when you have mentors like this. I am sure you can bank on this guys "truths",... from a certain point of view at least. Also, good and evil are a point of view, Brad. Anakin was a good person keen on helping others without reward, just unable to let go of his attachments and his fear of losing the ones he loves. Btw, that word "narcissistic", you may go home and rethink the meaning of that word.
