As long as your computer functions as intended I would not worry about it. usually those troubleshooting things tend to be largely useless. also, Windows 10 1909 is the newest version (it was released out not all that long ago now) as you could try updating to that and see if your issue is gone etc. like from 'Windows Updates' there should be a option to tell it to upgrade to Windows 10 1909 (or something similar). also, I think Windows 10 has a built-in sort of 'refresh' thing but I never messed with it much as typically if anything gets too out of whack, a clean install is always the all around best option. either way, it would be wise to use one of your 8GB USB sticks and download the Windows 10 1909 ISO file and use Rufus to make a bootable USB stick in case your computer ever gets too out of whack it can be used to wipe your hard drive and install Windows 10 from scratch to get it back into good running order etc.
with all of that said... what's the exact model of your HP anyways? ; this will give me some general hardware info on it which could help a little with potential troubleshooting.
p.s. if you want to be a bit more on the paranoid side of things you could always wipe the hard drive and install Windows 10 from scratch. because any computers I get a hold of, the first thing I do is wipe the drive to ensure everything is in good running order and that there is no viruses or other junk on it. but if your the only one who uses your computer and your sure nothing shady is on it, I would probably not worry about it.

A bit more information, please.
Notebook or desktop?
If desktop, flat screen or other type of monitor?
When does this happen? Randomly, shortly after startup, or when you're using a specific program?
Describe the flicker in more detail. Is it a white flash, a dark flash, color change, scrambled screen image or other?

Right now it does not seem to be more than an annoyance, but I will keep that in mind. thank you

I am hoping it is nothing I need to address, but when I read that phones doing that have a virus, I began to worry. what is on the screen just disappears for a fraction of a second. I thought it was my old eyes. but now I see it. I have not seen it today. thank you!!

If you can, try connecting a different monitor and see if the problem persists.

enigma72If I were you, at the very least I would download the Windows 10 ISO and get a USB stick (it likely needs to be at least a 8GB stick since the ISO's lately are a little too large to fit onto a 4GB stick) and make it bootable. you can download a Windows 10 ISO from Microsoft (which is a official program so you ain't got to worry about anything shady happening) here... www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows10 ; click I think it was the 'download tool now', which is the Media Creation Tool, and from there you can download a ISO of Windows 10 (it should automatically detect which you need given your current Windows 10). NOTE: about twice a year they update that with newer ISO's but you can use the current one for a while which just came out not long ago. that's a insurance plan for you in case something gets really out of whack you can still use it to get your computer running again back into a usable state. because once that's setup all you basically need to do is plug it into your computer, power it on, and there is a certain key on the keyboard you press during BIOS screen (probably a HP looking screen you see when powering on your computer) which will tell it to boot from the USB stick. NOTE: since you got a HP, chances are, at least the last I knew, they partitioned the hard drive (if you don't know, a hard drive is where all of your computer data is stored inside of your computer) so when you do a 'factory restore' (which puts the computer back to the state when you first bought it) it boots from that 2nd partition in order to restore your computer back to it's factory state. still, I prefer the method I did above so you ain't got all of that HP junk bundled into the Windows 10 installation as what I did gives you more of a proper Windows 10 install since it won't be included with the HP junk. plus, using the official Windows 10 ISO file you can delete that 2nd partition etc which will give you more hard drive space if you need it but then the HP restoration partition will be deleted but it's generally not a big deal because if your hard drive dies right now and you bought a replacement (from say Amazon or Newegg etc) it's not going to have that partition restoration stuff on it anyways and you will resort to the Windows 10 method I mentioned.

thank you mslo79, Catman and BATouttaheck I paid more attention. the flickering was when I played Microwave Solitaire. Yesterday as I was playing, the screen went black for a short time. Then the game reset. It took me down to zero games played. Today it seems to be working fine. Thank you all!

enigma72Here is something you can do real quick just to see if your general Windows 10 OS is intact... go to start then type in 'cmd' (without the ') then with your mouse pointer highlight it and right click and select 'run as administrator' then once at the prompt type in... 'sfc /scannow' (without the ') and press enter. it will proceed to check system files and will count up to 100% and will say if there was any errors or not after it finishes. but anyways, with that said... since the flickering is when playing a game it's likely just some minor issue and nothing to worry about.

You might also want to check to make sure you have the latest version of Microsoft Solitaire.
Open up the Microsoft Store (which should have a shortcut somewhere on your computer ... if nowhere else it should be in the Start menu), search for Microsoft Solitaire. It should tell you if there are updates available.
If not, the problem could just be the normal glitchiness of that particular program (sad to say).
