While I can't get too excited about the CFL... I need more teams in a league nowadays, & the season is probably 3-5 weeks too long... I love & appreciate the Grey Cup. It's arguably on our Mt. Rushmore of nationally interested sporting events - Grey Cup, World Jr's Hockey, The Brier, & Stanley Cup Final.

I like the CFL. Maybe because we got to see a lot of it, growing up where I did. A couple things the NFL should pick up. The one yard gap, the receivers in motion. The 25 yard end zone would really be cool, but most stadiums wouldn't have room.

The problem is that the CFL can't generate enough interest south of the border and hampered by a smaller operating budget. They tried multiple expansions into the U.S. in the past and I think once had a team in Mexico City but it always retracted back to Canadian only teams.

The CFL has partnered with American Football of Mexico (LFA) as a potential developmental pool. While the CFL is not interested in expanding internationally, it is quite interested in global interest for players. Halifax will have a team within 5 years, it's just going through local political stuff right now to get a stadium. 10 teams coast to coast, a shorter schedule, that'd be more interesting to me than today's set up.

And yeah, the end zone is insane. You'd have the same play calls available to you at the 2 yard line as you would from 30 yards out in the NFL.

I was rooting for Hamilton. No real reason.

There should be a team in the Atlantic provinces - Halifax would probably be the best candidate. And maybe one in Quebec City as well.

You really think so? I'm not a football fan, and I don't follow the CFL, but it's true it's been a big issue in local circles lately. I listen to the radio some mornings (especially while I've been off work) and it's a common topic (maybe the most common or consistent). Even though I don't follow the CFL, I'd love to see a team here. Might even be the thing that gets me into the sport. I'm just not sure they'll get a stadium. I don't think any other place in the Maritimes, or even Atlantic Provinces, could support a team right now, other than Halifax.

A friend of mine was on the 1990 Blue Bomber team. Caught a TD pass in the Grey Cup game. His TD is at the 30 second mark of this video.

He went on to coach Oregon State (twice), Nebraska, the San Diego Chargers, and stints in all the b-leagues including being named an assistant in the new XFL. He played for Bear Bryant at Alabama.

Well, the league surely wants to get it right the first time... not just planting a flag. Unfortunately, the league has bigger fish to concern, namely the Montreal Alouettes & BC Lions ownership situations... though word is they're slowly on track.

HRM has about 3 times the population of the province that Charlottetown is in, I'll guess no.

Does anyone know what American channels show CFL games? I’d like to see one sometime as that field is HUGE.

What I remember most about Mike Riley was him coaching the Chargers during the abysmal 2000-2001 seasons. This was right in the middle of the Ryan Leaf debacle. Chargers went 1-15 in 2000 and 5-11 the following year.

So the vote was in favour of building a stadium, but the area they wanted to build it was rejected. The wait continues. Yeah, it sucks. The wait is available because the league isn't not going to eventually go to Halifax. There's not some sassy bidding with San Antonio or Portland or whatever the usual expansion threats are. Hamilton did go through a similar process, their stadium tied to the Pan Am Games. Eventually got done because they'd had enough run amok, & the games were coming. I maintain that once Halifax is on the slate, the CFL will nicely look & feel, finally, complete... & thus more attractive to me.
