Today, for only the second time, I bought a "Buddha's Hand." They may be more common in some areas, but they're not often widely seen in stores, here. The first time that I found one in a small market, I bought it without thinking that I was going to be out of town, so the purchase wasn't very wise. It spoiled, while I was away. It's a citrus fruit, with the color, aroma and peel-texture of a lemon. Projecting from the stem, are many little finger-like growths. It is, essentially, only skin, zest and pith, without the pulp of lemons, limes, oranges, etc.. There's no juice. You say: What's the point? That's what I said, when I first saw a Buddha's Hand tree, at a nursery. Apart from being just fun; the zest is less bitter than what you get from a lemon, it's said to be a great thing for candy-makers, the little protrusions are good for decorating other dishes, it's good for the infusion of citrus flavor. And, it makes a lovely air-freshener. The only down side of that is that I can expect the fruit-fly brigade, any minute now. I'm going to add some of the zest to the Sweet Potato dish that I'm taking to Thanksgiving dinner. www.thekitchn.com/5-things-to-do-with-a-buddhas-hand-196888

I once bought a small Buddha's hand tree on sale for 75% off. Didn't have a clue what it was, just thought it looked pretty. It grew three fruits over time. I never used them, but picked them and enjoyed the fragrance.

I just finished layering my Sweet Potato dish, for tonight. I used a bit of zest from the Buddha's Hand, along with butter, salt/pepper, thyme and cayenne, on each layer. It smells good, I hope it tastes good.

I had never heard about Buddha's Hand fruits. I don't think I've ever seen them for sale here in Montreal, not even in Asian grocery stores. The thing looks alien!
