I will be in Buenos Aires and will have a long weekend to do some traveling. I have been to Santiago, Bogota and Montevideo in LATAM.
If you have 3 days where would you go? I am thinking of jumping on a plane to go to Lima. (sadly I don’t think I would have enough time to go see Machu Picchu) Or Rio De Janeiro.
It will be early February.
Any tips for where to spend the 3 days? I am ok with flying anywhere if it’s within let’s say 4-5 hours of flight from Buenos Aires.
I prefer exploring nature over cities.

Those all sound exciting tbh. Lima actually has more people than Rio believe it or not.

If you prefer nature to cities, I can think of three places in Argentina that might be of interest: #1 - Iguazu Falls. One of the most spectacular waterfalls in the world. Much better than Niagara Falls in my opinion. It's in the border between Argentina and Brazil and it's well worth visiting both sides, although if you are American you might need a visa to enter Brazil. It's also very close to the border with Paraguay, so you might want to go there for a couple of hours just so that you can say that you've been to Paraguay. #2 - Patagonia, in the extreme south of Argentina. I haven't been there myself but I know people who have, and the scenery is supposed to be fantastic. #3 - Bariloche, in the Andes near the Chilean border. Again I haven't been there myself but it's supposed to be a beautiful region. It's a winter sports area, so I am not sure what it looks like in the middle of the summer.
Argentina is in the middle of a big economic crisis right now, so your hard currency will go a long way!

sounds good thank you. i am european so i am good to go to all of those countries. Patagonia seems like a really great idea if I had more time. But the waterfalls sound just like the perfect tip.

Lima actually has more people than Rio believe it or not. interesting, newer knew that. the world is full of amazing places, no matter how many places and countries i visit there will always be something new to experience. what exciting times we love in. i hope i love long enough to experience humans on another planet even if i just obserge it on tv, but in the meantime travellign around the world seems like a good option too. and latam seems full of very “otherworldy” places...

Yes, three days for Patagonia is probably not a lot, especially when you include the travel time. For Iguazu Falls it should be just about the right amount of time. Flights from Buenos Aires are probably quite frequent and under two hours.
I hope you are not vegetarian! Going to Argentina and not eating beef is like going to Rome and not seeing the Pope.

Perhaps Banos in Ecuador. With the "Rio Pastaza" waterways, the "Devil's Staircase" waterfall, the "Devil's Cauldron" waterfalls, the "Swing at the End of the World", the "Throat of Fire" (Tungurahua) Colvano and other attractions.

You're welcome, but remember to plan carefully and be safe if you go to a potentially dangerous destination like this.

I have travelled most of the world on my own, including places like China, India, Russia, South Africa, Kazakhstan, Thailand, Aserbaijan, UAE, you name it, so I am not especially worried but always look to locals or those that have been there for some safety tips regarding the territory.

Have you been there yourself? Tierra del Fuego is Patagonia which I mentioned earlier. Do you have to go back to Buenos Aires after this side trip? If you do, I wouldn't go to Ecuador. It's really not that close!
