For whatever reason, Hong Kong genre films seemed above average this year. For my list, I'll kick off with an aurally bonkers CatIII throwback:
Guilty (Jill Wong) - Hong Kong Our Little Sister (Hirokazu Kore'eda) - Japan Paths of the Soul (Zhang Yang) - Mainland China Port of Call (Philip Yung) - Hong Kong Saat Po Lang 2 (Cheang Soi) - Hong Kong
I'll give honourable mentions to:
Kaili Blues (Bi Gan) - Guizhou, Mainland China The Treasure (Corneliu Porumboiu) - Romania Heart Attack (Nawapol Thamrongrattanarit) - Thailand Love Forecast (Park Jin-pyo) - South Korea An (Naomi Kawase) - Japan

Our Little Sister is one of his best IMO. I want to see more Naomi Kawase, only seen Still the Water and Radiance.

I need to re-watch Our Little Sister - although it made my list, I think it's easily the weakest of Koreeda's films that I've seen, speaking more to the general exceptional quality of his output than to its own.

There's not a lot between his films, but I'd definitely put Our Little Sister in the upper half. Only one I've been a little disappointed with so far is I Wish, again a re-watch may remedy that. Only one I've not seen (I think) is Distance, which sounds very intriguing.

On another forum I frequent, someone spoke of the difficulty for a filmmaker in doing "nice", and the joy of a movie about nice people getting along with very little drama in their lives.

Judging from the lists you've been posting, I'm going to guess that of the films I mentioned, Paths of the Soul and Kaili Blues will be the ones most likely up your alley.
