After a brilliant no. 1 and solid 2-3, I have to pick out films I'm not all that fond of to fill out the list... need to see more! I shall definitely try to track down those on your list.
- Winter Sleep (Turkey)
- Two Days, One Night (Belgium)
- Leviathan (Russia)
- Force Majeure (Sweden)
- Clouds of Sils Maria (France) **barely qualifies as a lot of it is in English...

**Tied for Best Film Of The Decade for me.

The only one I've seen of yours is Winter Sleep which is probably my favorite of the few Ceylan films I've seen. I do struggle getting into his films, more than most directors who work in a similar "slow" style.

Most of what I've put down in my lists is from East and South-East Asia, simply because that is the region of the world where most of my non-English language viewings come from. However, at the top of the list for 2014 are two European films that deserve a place in any best-of-the-decade list:
Phoenix (Christian Petzgold) - Germany Far From Men (David Oelhoffen) - France Coffin in the Mountain aka Deep in the Heart (Xin Yukun) - Mainland China Paradise in Service (Doze Nui) - Taiwan Kabuchiko Love Hotel (Ryuichi Hiroki) - Japan*
*it was a toss-up between this and Her Granddaughter, which I rated higher at the time, but hasn't been as memorable to me throughout the years. And there ain't room for two Hiroki in a list of five!
Other honourable mentions go to:
Ruined Heart: Another Love Story Between a Criminal and a Whore (Khavn) - Philippines Black Coal Thin Ice (Diao Yi'nan) - Mainland China Ice Poison (Midi Z) - Burma Red Amnesia (Wang Xiaoshuai) - Mainland China
And if cultural influence is a criterion for judging, it would be difficult to go past the ridiculously often remade original version of Miss Granny (Hwang Dong-hyuk) - South Korea

I have however seen the Chinese version of Miss Granny. Can't say I was that impressed though.

I probably lean further towards mainstream and genre than you - Lav Diaz is someone I think I would have really enjoyed 20 years ago, when I was younger, stronger and had more patience! I've never seen anything from him beyond the first 30 minutes or so of Storm Children: Book One, which was mesmerising in a perculiar way.
As for Miss Granny, I wasn't really give it a vote of confidence in the quality stakes. But damn, in less than five years, it's been remade by Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Japan, India, Philippines, China ... that deserves a special credit.

I probably do lean more toward "arthouse" fare, for want of a better term. I'm not exactly young (40s) but I have re-ignited my passion for cinema in the last decade or so after spending much of the 00s watching not much more than what I saw on the occasional trip to the "mainstream" cinema with my partner at the time. I discovered Lav about five years ago but have only managed to see the bulk of his films in the last year or two. "Mesmerising" is definitely a word I'd use to describe them, I get lost for the day in his "world". Regarding Miss Granny, yes 7 remakes in 5 years, does deserve a mention.
