THE DARK CRYSTAL wastes high-quality production values on an unoriginal and uninteresting plot. In fact, the pacing is so bad that even a GARTHIM would be put to sleep. Stephen Garlick's performance is bad but, to be fair, JEN is a hero as personality-free as they come, so no actor could've done much more with the material. Is it true what they say about this movie being too dark? Yes and no. I'm not bothered by the gruesome imagery, because that's all it is: Images on the screen. In fact, I admire the creativity behind some of them. On the other hand, the dark events are meant to have a real emotional impact. I am bothered by them, because they cause tonal whiplash. Hell, some of them aren't even presented in a dramatic way. They're so matter-of-fact that you'd think a SKEKSIS wrote those sections of the script. Now, let's see what this new prequel series has to offer... 3/10 ------------------------------------- You can read comments of other movies in my blog.
