Because it struck me as psychobabble. I admit the term was used as a cheap throwaway insult but I have yet to see anything that supports it. Some critics have described psychoanalysis as a religion which is probably why the blanket explanation of heterosexuality doesn’t sit with me. I wonder if rabbits and mice go through the same thing. Rabbits and mice follow instinct. I'm also pretty sure the father plays no role with the young. Humans are more complex creatures. Common sense supports it. We all know infants are tied to the mother. We all know they're jealous of the mother's attention. There have been studies which support it. www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/talking-apes/201802/searching-evidence-the-oedipus-complexI'm just saying as a layman it makes perfect sense to me and I told you why. It makes perfect sense yet many people don’t agree with it. As you said, we’re complex creatures and situations and experiences affect us all in different ways which is why I don’t accept a broad generalisation such as the Oedipus Complex as the absolute truth. I’m sure it applies to a number of people.

I don’t go for all that psychobabble but you are right that we are created this way to produce more humans. Evolution and all that and we can throw in God for those who believe in him. It’s more or less the same answer. But, as Toasty and mslo both stated in their own way, we are rarely asked this question because it’s “the norm”. And I wasn’t being “snarky”. I was just holding a mirror up to the other thread. It depends on whom is doing the producing and what they produce. I am not human, so I disagree. Things don’t always work out as planned. BTW: When did you find out that you’re not human?
