Saw this on Thursday night. It was awesome and the theatre was nearly full ... have read other comments where theatres were actually SOLD OUT and they added an additional auditorium to accomodate the demand. If you enjoy live theatre and musicals don't miss it ... you've got one more chance next Wednesday, February 22nd at 7:00 pm ... it's the next best thing to seeing it LIVE.

Did you ever see the original movie version? It starred a young Christian Bale ( 20 but looking credible as 17 or so). His "Santa Fe" was excellent, both in terms of the singing and the dancing...and the acting! I think you can still see a clip of that particular performance on YouTube. Sadly, after this movie musical, he was supposed to have said that he was not too interested in appearing in another one.
The movie was directed by the same director who directed the High School Musical film series, Kenny Ortega. The choreography in the movie was outstanding, especially in the outdoor scenes.

I had not seen the film but, after seeing the show the other night, ordered the 20th Anniversary blu ray from Amazon ... it arrives on Tuesday. thanks for posting the clip it makes me anxious to see the entire film. It's a shame it was classified as a "bomb" when it opened. It was probably ahead of it's time.

I never knew they did a live version. I loved the one that came out when I was a kid and yes Christian Bale was great in it.

The stage musical version was what was filmed live. However, what in the theatre is the so-called "suspension of disbelief" did not work too well on the filmed clip I have seen. Jeremy Jordan ( who played the role of Bale) was ok in the stage version, but looked too old to be that character when the filmed closeups were shown.

I've wanted to see the stage play forever. I'm going to hold off on seeing this as I want to see the real thing live first....
