Mr. Adams and Eve Two famous Hollywood actors Eve Drake and Howard Adams, a married couple, are shown at home plus at work usually to comedic effect. They wrangle with studio head J.B. Hafner and deal with agent, the affable Steve. Howard Duff and Ida Lupino were married in real life when the series was filmed. Collier Young, who created the series and wrote many episodes, had previously been married to Lupino. www.imdb.com/title/tt0050042/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_40Have vague memory of enjoying this in re-runs at some point … may have some episodes on one of those olde-timey-TV disks !

Count me a fan. I believe her own favourite of her movies was the Gothic thriller LADIES IN RETIREMENT, which I'd say was her best

Her "freak out in the courtroom" scene in THEY DRIVE BY NIGHT is a great bit of acting.
Also in HIGH SIERRA--especially when Bogie is driving and talking about the girl he describes as"decent," her expression is hilariously apparent without saying anything or showing much expression other than disappointment since he obviously saw her as the opposite of that quality.

Here are a few titles that I don’t think have been mentioned or just mentioned in passing: The Adventures Of Sherlock Holmes (1939). Second of the Rathbone/Bruce series. Ida plays a young English woman threatened by a mysterious killer who can simultaneously strangle and beat in the head of a victim. Moontide (1942). Ida is rescued from suicide by lonely dude Jean Gabin. The first half is a romantic drama of two broken people finding each other but the second half turns decidedly dark. On Dangerous Ground (1951). Lupino is a blind lady who bitter cop Robert Ryan suspects of withholding information on a killer. Private Hell 36 (1954). She met her next husband, Howard Duff, while shooting this film. Two cops recover a fortune in stolen cash. One of them wants to keep it. The other is guilt ridden.

THE FOOD OF THE GODS is on the ok.ru website so that will be my treat tonight ! I have wanted to re-watch this (saw it a long time ago) as it also has Pamela Franklin who kind of reminds me of her but it is notorious for it's badness (including shocking amounts of on screen rat killing--made in Canada, which had animal abuse laws from the 19th century).

I’m glad you mentioned Junior Bonner. One of my favorite Steve McQueen movies. Agreed. An understated and very 'human' performance from a pop star actor. Possibly Peckinpah's most underrated - if only because nobody seems to watch it.

Thanks for this, OP! Reminding, at least me, of this fantastic and great actress and director. Steve McQueen's mother in Junior Bonner 1972 Dr Cassandra on Batman 1968, with husband Howard Duff Waiting for Rosalind Russell, on set for The Trouble with Angels 1966, that she directed.

An opinion of Lupino in the man i love (1946) from a film noir guide (David N. Meyer).
Ida Lupino plays the most realized, complex, and credible woman of the postwar period - one of the most believable and three-dimensional characters in cinema.

Well be my guest. FOOD OF THE GODSGood Lord that was awful. "atrocious" said Variety... "crass" said James R Parish in his chapter on Lupino in The 40s Gals... and it's a Maltin "bomb" . Personally I'd give it the edge over NIGHT OF THE LEPUS, on basis it has several giant creatures. rather than just one .. none of them being a bunny rabbit... and it's a notch or two above THE DEVIL'S RAIN, Lupino's other "horror" movie from this era, whivh featured Borgnine, Shatner and Travolta as co-stars. It was Pamela Franklin's last movie. And no wonder - she'd had top featured roles in the likes of THE INNOCENTS and THE PRIME OF MISS JEAN BRODIE in the 60s. This was a serious comedown... a LOVE BOAT and a couple of FANTASY ISLANDS later and she was gone.... Anyway, Crass, atrocious or whatever FOOD OF THE GODS made a "sizeable bundle" at the BO and 8 years later we were treated to Which was also known as GNAW

"Two fishermen pick up a psychotic escaped convict who tells them that he intends to murder them when the ride is over. " Saw this one when I was much too young to be seeing this one … Thanks to Mom taking me along to every change of picture at the local Bijou ! Still think of it when I watch Perry Mason ! and will not even look at a Hitchhiker ! BUT: Can hardly wait to find it and watch it again !

Yes - a curiously unfulfilled career. She'd made one for Bert Gordon a few years earlier called NECROMANCY, with Orson Welles as the head of a coven. Its free on Amazon Prime. I accidentally joined Amazon Prime so am making sure I get my money's worth. Franklin was also in a highly respectable remake of THE HAUNTING in the Julie Harris part - THE LEGEND OF HELL HOUSE. According to Wiki she was pregnant with her second child (By Harvey Jason, who she married after meeting him on NECROMANCY) during THE FOOD OF THE GODS shoot and wanted a career change... she'd started acting early at age 11. Wiki also claims she enjoyed making the movie! Looking at her CV - THE NANNY was pretty good - and she was the kidnap victim opposite Brando in the cult thriller THE NIGHT OF THE FOLLOWING DAY..... Orson,, Marlon, Bette, Deborah Kerr, Holden, Bogarde, Lupino, Roddy McDowall, Maggie, Trevor Howard, Stephen Boyd, John Hurt, Rita Moreno, Cliff Robertson, Capucine.... she certainly got to work with some big names. She admired Deborah's grace, according to imdb trivia! She and Jason live in Hollywood and he runs a much admired first edition bookshop. Guess that's a happy ending...

Franklin was also in a highly respectable remake of THE HAUNTING in the Julie Harris part - THE LEGEND OF HELL HOUSE. That's not technically a remake!
Speaking of Stephen Boyd, THE THIRD SECRET-- she worked very well as the co-star for him despite being a teenager.
I still haven't seen a number of her films--I watched THE LION and SINFUL: DAVEY this past year, as well as an episode of the short-lived show COOL MILLION she was in.

That may be - but it knocks the "official" remake - the Lili Taylor one - out of the ballpark. CZJ in a leather ensemble was main selling point, if memory serves.... I'll take either Claire (below right, with Julie Harris) from the original or Gayle from HELL HOUSE
