made up on the spot because the filmmakers couldn't come up with a satisfactory conclusion?

Solo: A Star Wars Story
MAJOR SPOILER Below for anybody who still hasn't seen it.
I know that Woody Harrelson's Death Scene was changed a bit on the day that they shot it.
Originally, Harrelson's character "Tobias Beckett" was going to say to Han Solo while slowing moving for his weapon "Pay Attention because now I'm going to tell you the most important lesson of all........always fire first!" to which Beckett then takes out his weapon but Solo shoots Beckett before he can fire.
The reason why it was changed to what we got in the actual Movie was because George Lucas was on the set that day that they shot that scene and when he saw how the scene was going to play out, he said to Ron Howard (The Movie's Director) "why doesn't Han just do this ?" to which Ron Howard liked and agreed and then Howard went to his crew and said to them "okay everybody, we're going to do it like this instead".
That being said, I actually think that that scene was Pretty Good in the Movie.

A lot of animated Disney films in the 60s and 70s seem to just end without resolution of major plot points.
