#88 - - the jersey number of Chris Carter, Michael Irvin, Marvin Harrison, and Lynn Swann - - barely gets worn by wide receivers any more. The leading receiver by yards who wears #88 this year is Marcell Ateman, who has 70 yards on the season. There has not been a catch by a receiver who wears #85 all season. Of the top fifty players in receiving this year, only four are wide receivers with a jersey number in the 80s. www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/28224466/behind-wide-receivers-numbers-shift-why-nfl-best-donning-nos-10-19

I couldn't stand Keyshawn in his early career, but he's grown on me as an analyst/ sports personality. It does seem funny that one of the greatest Pats QBs of all time wore the same number as one of the greatest Pats receivers of all time. (#11 worn by Bledsoe/Edelman.)

It hasn't changed for tight ends - - 80s are still the norm there (they might be the only numbers they can have).

Had this card as a kid and it cracked me up: RIP Jerome, at least you were immortalized committing one of the worst facemask penalties in history.

I think the NFL numbering rules are silly. I can tell if a players is a defensive lineman by his position, not his number. Tom Harmon, great HB for Michigan, wore #98. Doug Flutie wore #22, Chase Young wears #2 for Ohio State (boo). If you are a QB and want to wear #66, more power to you.

I like it in college, other than kickers being 97 or 98, which just looks wrong. But NFL referees are so bad to begin with, we don't need anything else that would confuse them more.
