I like the graphics in Ninja Gaiden. The sequels are much more polished but there is a rough charm to the original.
Now here are some hideous NES graphics. It looks like a Gameboy game.

Castlevania II? That's an odd choice. I thought it was an improvement graphically over the original, which was pretty muddy, especially Simon's sprite. (He has no face! And is dressed like a turd. LOL.) That would be a good contender for worst actually. It has it charms sure, but the sequel improved.
Interestingly enough, Simon's Quest actually won Best Graphics from Nintendo Power in 1989.
Crystalis? Really? I got to say I like all of those.
I'd have to really jog my memory. Back to the Future was pretty ugly and awkward.
Dr. Chaos was pretty lame and half-assed (as opposed to its box art.)
Rambo isn't too bad really, but kind of awkward. Music was great though.
RBI Baseball. That entire series. So blank and nondescript. Compare that to a sports game that has personality like Punch-Out or Baseball Simulator 1000. No excuse.
Ghosts 'n Goblins, I presume was probably pretty impressive for an arcade port back then. I always found it ugly and very hard to tell what's going on sometimes until it's too late.
Super Dodge Ball. Not bad graphics actually. Good, typical Nekkestu charm, but the flicker was really, really bad. Characters practically disappear. Come on.
Renegade. Crude Westernization of the first Nekketsu arcade game.

NES Star Wars were pretty uninspired.
