I have so much admiration for actors. It looks so effortless when it’s done right but there is so much the person needs to invest in it. I honestly don’t know how they manage, especially doing dramas or emotionally very charged roles.
The last three days I was watching someone perform such a vulnerable role, that I honestly don’t know how they go home and go to sleep without taking some pills or downing a few shots, after bringing such raw emotions onto the set, including real tears and all.
I don’t know what exactly it is that drives someone to do this for a living I know I wouldn’t be able to do it but have the utmost admiration for those that do.
If you had the talent and the option do you think you would choose to be an actor for a living?

Yea I’d give it a go. I’d have to be a really good actor tho because my I’ve have never had an ab and I’m about as pretty as Phillip Seymour Hoffman.

Not a chance.
I mean, between me flubbing my lines and others flubbing their lines...because it is bound to happen.
I recall the one SNL skit at Christmas time when they were talking about 'cork soakers'.
I bet they practiced that SO many times, but kept saying something else. They did it until it wasn't funny anymore.
I agree - the money is good. However, in the long run, is it really worth it?

Never. Being told what to do all the time, does not sound like fun.

" I have so much admiration for actors. It looks so effortless when it’s done right....." EXACTLY !! Most of us generally don't pay much attention to an actor or actress who is doing a decent job of acting, since that's what's expected......it's when it's bad, or REALLY bad that it tends to stand out like a sore thumb, and quickly becomes something very hard NOT to focus on..... SAVE FERRIS

Acting (well) may be difficult compared to some "mindless" jobs, but there are much harder, certainly more admirable or draining jobs out there. Also anyone acting as a career, I imagine is at least enjoying it, no one's slogging away at an acting career because they couldn't make it as a labourer. I would try it if given the option. As far as what drives someone to do it, I think Sandman answered that.

We all love movies and TV shows, but making them isn't easy - long hours (average 12-14 for a film, 15-16 for an hour-long TV show), periods of waiting around in a trailer while lights, cameras, sets, etc. are set up, having to do a scene more than once to shoot coverage, etc.

Well, I am an actor. A nobody one, but I do it.
I did have an audition once as a junkie suffering from PTSD, and putting myself in that mental state was rough. On the other hand, doing a part like that is voluntary, and if you can you can, if you can't you can't. I once turned down Romeo Montague in a stage production because I knew I didn't have it in me. Just got to know your limits.
The flip side is the hardest part of the job - when you want a part but are told no. Rejection is hard and you deal with a lot of it.
But I'd definitely take doing it full time (with some more of the money and recognition, which wouldn't hurt) over any day job I've had.

No. I have had to do enough "acting" in real life just to get by. And 98% of actors never make much money at it. And of the 2% who do, have to work a second job.

Having done some back in the day, hell yeah. It's great. It can be tough work, but there's no high like feeling the audience react to your performance.

But imagine doing this incredibly hard and exhausting (both physical and emotionally) job and being paid minimum wage or just normal average wage... still would do it?
