It was alright, but I think they could've done more with the idea of KION turning evil. The final episode was a complete disappointment. I appreciate the effort of trying to fit the show and the 2nd movie into the same timeline, but way too much time is spent on a subplot about the heroes having a competition. I know that there's always been fantastical elements in this franchise, but KION lifting Pride Rock up and down with his powers was ridiculous. There's something that was present throughout the show but didn't bother me until now (I guess it was done more frequently). Remember in the movie when MUFASA's ghost appeared to SIMBA? It was epic and majestic. His body was shaped and colored differently than when he was alive. SIMBA asked many questions, but MUFASA only gave cryptic answers. MUFASA then went away despite SIMBA begging him not to. All of this and other mystical moments only happened when RAFIKI was around, so the viewer could interpret that as only happening in SIMBA's head (no else could see/hear any of it). Fast-forward to this show. KION calls MUFASA whenever he wants to. MUFASA's real face pops up between some clouds during the day with only a few lights around him. That's underwhelming. Also, others can see him. Also-also, he always answers the "call." I know dead people probably aren't very busy, but are they really free 24/7? Isn't there a heavenly message version of the red phone button?
