Bram Stoker's house is less than 10 minutes down the road from where I live and there's an area of land 5 minutes from here that was used as an unconsecrated graveyard for murderers and people who committed suicide long ago. Apparently, the tradition was to bury the bodies staked down lest their souls went wandering.
Oh, and in my own lifetime there was a vicious murder carried out by two sisters in the nearby council estate. The press dubbed them the "Scissor Sisters" at the time.
