I know CD players (and burning your own audio CDs) is getting to be a thing of the past. But some of us continue to do this. So I was wondering... anybody here still burn their own audio CDs? I've been burning CDs for a number of years, but ran into difficulty a few years ago when I couldn't seem to burn CDs anymore using my Windows Media Player to do the task. After a lot of frustration, futile troubleshooting, and searching around, I discovered it's easier to just dispense with Windows MP and use a 3rd-party program for that work. I downloaded CDBurnerXP (a free program), and it has given me great results with creating my own audio CDs. Not a single problem. Plus, CDBurnerXP has a few other features to it that WinMP lacks (automatic track labeling, insertion of user-selected pause breaks between tracks, etc.). There are other CD burner programs available, but for now, I'm happy with this one.
Post your experiences with CD burning if you care to share.

I went through the monstrous task of important all my cds and making my whole collection digital and just using an iPod. After awhile they take up too much space. My car doesn’t have a CD player and some computers I think don’t even have them anymore. And now even the iPod is outdated. I don’t like how fast technology is changing with this stuff

So, it's a matter of convenience for me to keep burning my own audio CDs. I also find them easy to label, store, and archive.

I also find them easy to label, store, and archive. it just depends on what your listening habits are too and how many cds you have. With iTunes they made it pretty easy to import your cds and all that. I like the fact that I can fit about 200 albums on the iPod. But with iTunes phasing out, once again it’ll be a whole new learning process with learning the new app and getting the newest iPhone which holds a lot of data and all that. The first step in going full digital is a headache at first. I know plenty of people that are happy just sticking to cds and there is nothing wrong with that either. But the drawback is when you buy a car that doesn’t have player. Since my car is my main source of listening I knew I had to go digital

I burn a CD once in a while. NOTE: don't burn standard AUDIO CD's from MP3/AAC files (or the like) as you should always burn from a lossless source like FLAC files. IMGBurn (i.e. www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/imgburn.html ; I linked to there instead of the official site since that ones installer does not have BS bundled with it even though it's the same version of the program) is typically what I use (it's more suited for DATA CD's than AUDIO, but it does work for AUDIO if you know what to do) but for AUDIO CD's something like CDBurnerXP is better suited for the task. but for general audio playback I use Foobar2000 as it's solid for general audio conversion from FLAC (a lossless format) to Opus/AAC/MP3 (lossy formats) etc. p.s. but burning any discs (CD/DVD etc) seems to be a thing of the past for most people. I would not use Windows Media Player for anything as it's crap. -For general audio converstion/playback = Foobar2000 -For general video playback (on Windows) = PotPlayer -For burning audio CD's = CDBurnerXP (i.e. daily.cdburnerxp.se/4.5/minimal/cdbxp_setup_4.5.8.7128_x64_minimal.exe ) would be a solid choice for the average person. -For burning DATA CD/DVD = IMGBurn (i.e. www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/imgburn.html )

I agree with that list, although I dumped IMGBurn because of the OpenCandy and I don't care if there are clean versions available. CDBurnerXP works fine for data, as does the default burning app built into Windows 10.

I was just trying to do that last night. I bought a portable cd player from bestbuy.com
I've actually used the program Audacity to edit songs So I can make them shorter so more will fit onto a cd-r.
I bought a 10 pack of cd-r's on amazon. I have 3 desktops - One an old XP, the other a windows 7 upgraded to 10, the 3rd a windows 10 (the one I was using). 2 burns failed.
I backed up my .wav files to a flash drive so i could burn it on another computer. I tried to burn it on an old xp computer but that thing was so slow to load, I gave up. Luckily, the desktop that was originally windows 7 worked.

Uh, me. Sheesh, I still burn vids to DVD's. What can I say, I like being surrounded by stuff . Also, being an old-timer, I just tend to think of streaming and whatnot as being somewhat evanescent in nature. What if I really want to see that film/hear that tune/whatever, and it's not out there in the ether anymore? Now I've got a copy of it in my grubby little hands fer keeps, har har har. Which sounds utterly inane to today's sophisticated technophile, I know; but after a time, some of we old dogs just don't feel like making room in our heads for more new tricks (or we want to save the space for other tricks) so we just stick with what we know as long as it works well enough .

I do, because my year car must have been the last of the line to still have a CD player, so I still use them. I find it to be a bit easier than linking up my phone or whatever...

I used to get my aunt to burn CDs ages ago. Now I don’t use CDs at all and just listen to music digitally.

Occasionally, as one of my cars is older and has no aux input or Bluetooth for the stereo. But I drive that car so infrequently now that it hardly matters. I could have added an aux port to it for like $20, but it hardly seems worth the effort for how little I drive the car....
