Literally, like a short cut across a frozen pond?

I grew up in an urban area and the only park nearby wasn't easily traverseable in the winter time.

I grew up in an urban area and the only park nearby wasn't easily traverseable in the winter time. I'm just imagining what it would be like if you thought you could save time and walk across a frozen pond, but ended up breaking and falling through the ice. However, having grown up in California, I'm not familiar with winter's actual effect on the environment.

I walked over frozen water when I was a child but nowadays I’m a lot heavier and a bit more sensible so avoid doing that sort of thing.

I did it a few times when I was younger, though I'm getting too old for it now.
