I think the order is pretty obvious and well agreed upon, and yet I saw Wolfen for the first time in a long time last year around this time. I was pretty surprised at how accomplished it was for a filmmaker who never made another narrative film. It's actually a lot more thoughtful and evocative than the other two, but it is nearly just as stylish in it's much more serious approach and the intriguing angle that it used to approach the whole lycantrhope kind of thing. I was surprised by how much I liked it and respected it.
It's not as entertaining as the other two, but it's more audacious and ambitious, I would argue.

An American Werewolf in London without a doubt.

What a phenomenal year for wolf horror. American Werewolf is great but The Howling is more fun to watch for me so I voted for it. Wolfen is okay but it's sort of muddled and tries to make some political statement. Gentrification is evil maybe? It does have an interesting cast and tried to tell a different story though so I give it points for that.

AWIL has always reminded me of 1941s The Wolfman. The lead characters are similar, to me. Also SFX are better.
But I can never unrember Robert Picardo's Eddie delivering the line, "I'm gonna give you a piece of my mind" in The Howling

We need a good Werewolf show. I have a werewolf story that's been in my head for years and would make a great show but I'll never get around to writing it down.

I totally agree here primemover . IMPO - That's definitely FOX alright it never surprises me at how that particular network continues to let down viewers regularly and especially over the years too .

I watched it when it premiered. Rick Baker did the werewolf effects. The idea was that the main character would get more and more murderous and uncontrolled so it wasn't quite like the Hulk where he basically stayed the same (and rarely had him fighting another monster--the Swamp Hulk was the only time). They brought in Brian Thompson as a Nazi werewolf who infected Chuck Connors character.
Like Police Squad, it was a show that screamed "more episodes."

I think Werewolves on Wheels should be remade. That film's title is so misleading. We never see a werewolf on wheels. I figured it was about a werewolf motorcycle gang.
At least Werewolf of Washington was about a werewolf of Washington.

Yes, that was a good show but Fox has a horrible history when it comes to genre shows (scifi/fantasy/horror).

I enjoy The Howling, but I have to go with American Werewolf, one of my favorite movies of all time.
AWIL has everything: memorable characters, great scares, funny bits that fit within the story, nice use of London's locations and an emotional ending.
Wolfen? Eh, nowhere in the same league as the other two.
