Many artists living/dead have been influential, and some that came after had/have no problem admitting they were heavily influenced by singing and/or lyrical style, dance moves, etc.. But I'm sure there are some artists no one would dare to emulate, because it would come off silly. I'm guessing most candidates will be lead singers. I think most would laugh at someone trying to pretend to be Jim Morrison, for example.

Orson Welles has no dopplegangers - he was one of a kind.

Orson Welles has no dopplegangers - he was one of a kind. I think John Cassavetes in his own way did. Both guys are more interesting than their work, but I like Cassavetes more. He found any way to make a movie, using his family, in-laws, his own house, and pulled it off. I'm a much bigger fan of an Orson interview than his movies, but I do like "Citizen Kane" very much.

Looking at the world of art, I would also say that Hieronymous Bosch had no imitators. Another would be Rembrandt Van Rijn, with his renderings in sfumato.

Orson Welles has no dopplegangers - he was one of a kind. Didn't Citizen Kane revolutionize a lot of film techniques? And I think his War of the Worlds broadcast is probably the foundation of any artist trying to pass their art off as real for maximum impact, ie Blair Witch Project. The only person really coming to mind for me is Paul Thomas Anderson, and that's because his art is all emulation of other artists. How do you emulate an emulator with no style of his own?

Does this mean that you do think PTA is a great artist? And yes, it's absurd to say that Orson Welles wasn't influential.
