Meh, I got what I expected. The opening car chase is comically overlong. But I loved the action scenes;far more graphic than I expected. Ryan Reynolds, the French lady, and the actor who played the villain were good. Dunno who that Spanish actor was, I thought it was Demian Bichir at first, but he was annoying as hell. The Hong Kong action set-piece was awesome.

Yep, it was horrible, it almost felt like a parody of action movies at times (in an unitentional way). Just the opening car chase alone. There are these extreme slow-mo shots that look like they came out of a bad 2000s fashion commercial. The writing is terrible with 'clever' references and quips that are so cringey that I almost couldn't resist the urge to turn the movie off at times. Like what TF are f.e. those eye ball and Spice Girls jokes in the opening sequence. In what universe does that even resemble comedy. It's like aliens first came across the human race and tried to explain what human comedy is after 5 minutes of observing it. Wait, let me correct that. It's like Bay never aged further than a 5 year old who thinks poop and pee jokes are the funniest thing in the world. And then we have those horrible music choices, like holy sh*t how bad can your soundtrack be. It also feels like Bay was finally given an R-rating and had no idea how to use it in terms of making the movie stronger, but only thought 'yeah, here's some blood, here's some gore, I'm so edgy look at me go'.
It's unfortunate, because after watching the trailer I hoped this would be a return to his previous slightly less mediocre form, but this might be the most Bayiest Michael Bay movie and I don't mean that in a positive way. It's never as offensively awful as Revenge of the Fallen, but it's still pretty bad. As the movie goes on it improves a bit in terms of story, but everything just becomes this big boring action blur. I said it after watching 'London Has Fallen' and I'll say it again here, "It's really impressive when someone can make action scenes this boring, but they did it, they found a way". At least it looked like the actors really had a blast shooting this (Ryan Reynolds was especially good) and, while badly edited, directed etc., the action setpieces on their own are quite impressive so shout out to everyone on the special effects and stunt team. It's these two things that carry the movie to my 3/10 rating, but wow, I didn't expect this to be this bad. I haven't seen that many bad movies this year so I'm not sure where it'll end up eventually, but as of now it's definitely in my top 5 worst movies of the year (together with The Perfect Date, IO, Rim of the World & Replicas).

Dumb question, but does the '90s song "6 Underground" by Sneaker Pimps have anything at all to do with the film?
Only thing remotely interesting to me about this film is the neon green Alfa Romeo sedans.

moviemouthI see your point here and I basically agree. but when someone says 'bad acting' it's generally not true since in those cases it's usually just average-ish and average is not exactly 'bad'. I would say the acting was more average with Ryan Reynolds being thrown in there in a attempt to get people watching it. but if your dissing Ryan Reynolds(?)... that's basically what he does in other movies like Deadpool etc. it's his schtick. the rest of the cast was more generic than anything else. like could have been better but easily could have been worse. p.s. but you did say the movie was awful and I think you could easily find worse in a typical year, even of it's action movie type. but I guess on a positive note, we both agree it's a Thumbs Down

I'd say that is more Michael Bay's fault then Ryan Reynold's though. His schtick doesn't belong in this movie. The movie would still be crap regardless of the performances, but he plays the part silly when it should have been serious. He doesn't do his shtick in Buried for example. It is the worst movie of this year that I have seen. YOU may not think it is awful, but I do.

moviemouthI see your point here but whether someone plays a character right or not is debatable and I would assume the average person would tend to see 'bad acting' like how I see it in the sense of someones overall presence (basically a lack of screen presence) and especially their line delivery is not up to par. the more obvious stuff basically. because while I agree with your point to some degree... that's not going to ultimately make someone a truly bad actor if their overall presence is decent as it's far easier to overlook someone who may not be playing a character correctly than it would be to overlook someone without much of a presence and the like. so while I can see you making a case for claiming someone not playing a character right is bad acting, the average person would tend to see truly bad acting more along the lines of what I mentioned with a lack of screen presence and can't deliver their lines half way decently etc. Yeah, I have seen him not do that here and there. but it seems like that whole Deadpool thing is now his schtick.

He has directed multiple R-rated movies though, including his 2 first movies. I know, a bit of poor phrasing on my part. What I meant to say is that this was the first enormous budget he has been given in a long time with an R-rating that would allow him to pull of the large scale R-rated SFX that he used in this movie. Both of his most recent R-rated movies, 13 Hours and Pain & Gain combined cost less than half of this movie. So the point that I was trying to get across is that this feels like the first time in a long time (if ever) that he's been able to do an R-rated movie with a Transformers-like budget and to me it just felt like he had no idea what to do with it. Also, under Netflix I think (I don't know for sure) that he had way more freedom than with most other studios, which made some of his bad filmmaking aspects (imo of course) come out way more now that they're almost unfiltered. Or at least that's what it felt like watching the movie.

You can see the difference between the first Bad Boys and the second where he had complete freedom to do whatever he wanted.

I've never heard of this so I watched the trailer. Bay forgot to cast an exceedingly hot woman in this. I may have watched it had there been a Megan Fox or Scarlett Johansson type. Ryan Reynolds is good in other movies I've seen. While not on Foxs sex appeal scale 10 years ago I find Adria Torres to be rather hot.

I'd have been surprised if it wasn't, but it still need to be pointed out. How this crap has a 50% on RT I have no idea. 10 Worst of the year so far.
1. 6 Underground 2. Domino 3. Pet Sematary 4. Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw 5. Hustlers 6. The Laundromat 7. The Fanatic 8. Polar 9. Aladdin 10. Godzilla: King of the Monsters From your list I've only seen Hustlers which I thought was okay, sort of forgettable, but not really that bad.
I've heard good things about The Laundromat. What is it you disliked about it?

The first half is alright, but I hated the second half. The whole movie seemed up it's ass with how clever it was trying to be. Meryl Streep playing a Mexican women is cringe-inducing. It's a complete mess imo. Hustlers is a horribly directed horribly written POS. It takes an interesting true story and makes it as generic as possible and seems to put these women in a good light. It is a really dumbed down version of the movie it should have been.

I see what you're getting at with Hustlers. My expectations were really low, so I wasn't surprised that it would end up as a generic piece of feminist propaganda.

It was directed by Michael Bay so I knew it'd be dumb & loud with lots of explosions . What took me out was the high collateral damage and disregard for human life in this lol. Again, I knew going into it that Bay directed it but you'd think the heroes would have been a bit more likable and thoughtful about hurting innocent life. The magnet scene on the boat was probably the best thing about this shit movie and while Reynolds had some good one liners thru out the film, I'd love for him to get back to being in serious dramas sometime in the near future (like he did in Buried).
At least James Franco's little twerp of a brother was killed early on in the film. Seriously can't stand that dude.
5/10

I liked the level of carnage and collateral damage during the opening chase, which you don't often see. But the film overall was a a mess. It was like they chopped about an hour out of it.

3/10 It's a Michael Bay movie, what do you expect. He's proven in the past to be capable of making at least a decent movie. Dumb question, but does the '90s song "6 Underground" by Sneaker Pimps have anything at all to do with the film? Nope. I've never heard of this so I watched the trailer. Bay forgot to cast an exceedingly hot woman in this. I may have watched it had there been a Megan Fox or Scarlett Johansson type. Ryan Reynolds is good in other movies I've seen. She is caked in make-up to make her look very Mexican. That sounds horrible and racist unless it was intended to be a joke. Well, it is and it isn't. You'll understand once you see the movie.
