I've never thought about it before, but now that you bring it up, I don't think I've ever seen any of his movies. Weird. What would be the most popular recommendation?

Spartacus is a movie I hear good things about.
It's directed by Kubrick and won academy awards. I've never seen it before either.
I haven't seen any of his movies either. You gentlemen have never seen a Kirk Douglas movie? OMG! Start with these: Lonely Are the Brave, The Bad and the Beautiful, Seven Days in May, and Spartacus.

It's probably not the most popular recommendation but Ace in the Hole is one of my favorites. It's Kirk Douglas as an unscrupulous reporter who gets the scoop about a man trapped in a mine. Eventually, he builds the story up into a media circus and then a literal circus forms as people come to gawk at the event. It's practically timeless and features one of my favorite line exchanges in a film. One competing reporter who wants more information (which Douglas is leveraging for fame and money) tries to appeal to him: "We're all in the same boat here." Douglas responds: " I'm in the boat. You're in the water. Now let's see how you can swim." Out of the Past is also a favorite of mine though it's more of a Robert Mitchum movie and there's a scene where Douglas legitimately slaps Jane Greer hard across the face and it's awkward as hell because you know he ad-libbed it and she did not know it was going to happen. Her reaction is one of complete stunned shock. It's one of a handful of reasons I do not like the guy. Fantastic film, though. Good first picks, though, are probably Sparticus and Paths of Glory.

Do you have any favorite Kirk Douglas movies?
Definitely not the one he made with Natalie Wood.... Edit: Only the good do die young.

I have seen Spartacus, but it was so long ago that I have very little recollection of it.
Ace in the Hole and Paths of Glory are pretty good.
I remember liking "The Final Countdown" when it came out. I would probably find it silly if I rewatched it today.

Spartacus is the one I remember. But it is odd because I know I've seen Kirk Douglas act and I am very familiar with his style, but Spartacus is the only movie I recall.

Don Rickles said at his roast that if it wasn’t for the dimple in his chin, the freaky jaw and the trick-or-treat voice he’d be like the rest of us: girls.

I've seen him in many things, but the one that stands out is "The War Wagon". Why? Because it was my first brush with on screen nudity. I was living in W. Germany at the time on an US Air Force base and I think we got the European cut. I got to see Kirk Douglas' bare butt as he was walking in to spend some time with a prostitute wearing nothing but his gunbelt.
