Arsenal's contract negotiator and their head of football met with him until gone 1am last night.
Man City want clarification to what's going on.

He's only assistant managed Man City, and no-one else.
Shouldn't he start lower down the pyramid?
Look at Jürgen... great manager. Learnt his trade in 2. Bundesliga.

The Arsenal board from what I can gather is rather lacking in people that know much about Football. Arsenal are crying out for a good tactician and man manager with a long record of success, this seems a brave decision and one which I think is unlikely to succeed after the brief honeymoon period.

Fat Sam says he would like the Arse job, but he doesn't think he is fashionable enough.

Looking more and more like it's Arteta.
Both clubs are in negotiations with each other now.

This doesn't fill me with much optimism. Man, I hope I'm wrong though. Seems to me Arsenal are crying out for an experienced manager to transition them through from Wenger to the next long termer. If Arsenal were currently competitive and looked a decent side then I could very well see a long termer having the space to develop a project. However, their position in the league (and the sheer gulf in class on display yesterday) is stark evidence that this is not the way to go. It's no time to be experimenting. It's almost impossible to have short term success and long term success with the same manager (although currently Rodgers looks like that may be happening at LCFC). You either appoint a wily tactician who will steady the ship and get the team immediately competitive (Benitez, Mourinho, Ancelotti, Allegri...) or you appoint a manager who is given the time and space to develop a project (Klopp at Liverpool), but your current situation dictates which the correct type to appoint. Arteta, at this juncture, could be a massive mistake.

I think Arteta may be their only option. None of Wenger's "Invincibles" have shown any real managerial ability. Maybe Viera but he is not interested. Ljungberg reminds me of McMurtie who was promoted by Rangers from under -19 boss to be their saviour. The guy wasn't up to it and happily left the spotlight. Ljungberg scored a few goals in his time, but that was all. He never showed anything else. Arteta is the only one who is likely to understand how to get the team playing the "Arsenal Way" but if he doesn't inspire enough confidence at the club then a fresher and more radical solution needs to be found. As Oggy says, they need to put together a long-term plan and forget about a "quick fix" . It must be remembered that Klopp's success at Liverpool didn't come cheap. Salah, OX, Virgil, Alison etc. came at a price that Arsenal don't seem keen on investing in new blood.

I'm a little confused by Man City. There's been quite a bit of talk about Pep moving on to greener grass. If so and if Arteta is Pep's only assistant then wouldn't it be in their interests to hold onto him for a bit...just in case.

Done. Three and a half year contract 🤔 That's fucking insane. I was figuring they'd see sense and offer him a 12 month contract as he's untried as a manager! Madness!
