In the preliminary rounds the CONCACAF champions Monterrey dispatched the local representative Al-Sadd, while the Asian champions Al-Hilal from Saudi Arabia sent the African champions back to Tunisia.
In the semifinals the South American champions (Flamengo from Brazil) will play against Al-Hilal today, and UEFA champions Liverpool against Monterrey tomorrow. The final is on Saturday.
If the European and South American champions confirm their favouritism, it will be a repeat of the 1981 final in which Flamengo crushed Liverpool by 3 goals to nil - the good old and long gone days when South American clubs were able to compete in an equal footing with the best clubs in Europe.

It would be better to play this tournament between seasons and not during the season.

Greatest competition in the world! Glad you like it. You're about to get knocked out of the League Cup tonight because of it. Hope the Liverpool players don't come back injured or knackered... Big away game against an in form Leicester on Boxing Day.

I loved it! Especially since it is in Qatar and I have the opportunity to practice my boycott of the World Cup.

Flamengo avoids the "zebra" (Brazilian football slang for an upset) and wins by 3 to 1, after being behind at the half.

Really? They lost to Monterrey on penalties in the final?
A few years ago the Montreal Impact reached the CONCACAF Champions League final, also against a Mexican team. I think we managed to beat them (or maybe it was a tie) in the first leg in Mexico but then on the return leg here in Montreal they won easily.

2018, so not this specific draw. Guadalajara. Still TFC had claimed 2017's domestic treble, & defeated both Tigres & Club America, winning at Azteca. Bradley just signed an extension with TFC this week, which is probably just as well considering Team USA fans not really loving him.
