Does the Witcher not age then? In the Yennefer scenes you see the brother and sister as children, but then it switches to the Witcher who is trying to rescue the Princess from the curse. I'm confused now. The brother is the princesses father. He is a young boy in Yennefer scenes and an old man in the Witcher’s. So those two events are roughly 40-50 years apart. It seems Yennefer doesn’t age. None of the sorceressrs seem to. The Witcher I’m not sure. I can assume due to mutations he may age slower but he definitely ages. I thought they were brother and sister. Anyway, thanks Marv.

I've just finished watching episode 4 and things are coming together. I understand some of the different timelines better. I am still confused about the things that happened in episode one where the Witcher kills the woman and her men. When did that take place? Also, I'm still waiting to figure out how Yennefer fits into everything. Oh, I wanted to ask you - if the bard is in the scenes with the Witcher, does that mean it's now?....and speaking of the bard, I wish he would disappear. His dialogue is jarring and out of place. It takes me out of the story.

It takes me out of the story. Geralt killing Renfrie and her men in Blaviken are the first events we see with him (as an adult at least). This is where he gets the name Butcher of Blaviken. This is before he meets the bard since the Bard calls him Butcher of Blaviken. The Geralt events are chronological to his own story. Yennefer starts to fit into Geralts story in episode 5...but more importantly she introduces us to the White Flame or whatever, that seem like theyre a political organization of sorcerers and sorceresses that have influence over various kingdoms...keeping peace, assisting where necessary, offering kings and queens council, etc. Kind of like the Maesters in Game of Thrones, except badass magic users.
An overarching timeline would be something like...
Beginning of time - Yennefers ascension into sorcery - The Witchers various monster hunts and other warrior deeds/Yennefer after the assassin with the bug - Cirilla on the run from the Nilfgardians - Final Episode
I liked the Bard a lot. I thought he was perfectly annoying...in an entertaining way.

In the witcher scenes, the old man is that realms king or whatever, named Foltest. It's revealed he was in a sexual relationship with his sister Adda and the princess (who is the beast that killed the other witcher) is their offspring. In the Yennefer scenes, there is a young boy and girl at the ball where she first appears after enchantments, the young boy is Foltest, and his sister is Adda.
So the Yennefer ball scenes are approximately 40 years or so prior to the Witcher dealing with the beast at that castle. This episode was the first one that made it obvious to me we were watching two timelines. The timelines do intersect as the series goes on and become more or less one.

PS they did a great job making Anya Chalotra go from ugly to stunningly beautiful. It's an underrated thing to convincingly make a pretty girl not so pretty in movies and tv.

I've finished the series and I can't wait for season 2. Now that I've stopped comparing it to GoT, I'm loving it. My only complaints now are: I do wish they could decide on how they want the characters dialogue to sound, because the way some of the characters speak (the bard for instance, uses modern terms frequently) is taking me out of the story, and the directors should take the series more seriously.

Watched the first ep and liked it a lot. *ep 1 spoilers maybe*I particularly liked the chemistry between the Witcher and the girl he’s after...was kinda surprised how that ended. Feels like a lot of exposition...and I hope a lot of it isn’t drastically important because I definitely didn’t get all of it. So long as we keep following the Witcher and he keeps stabbing things I’ll enjoy it. Going to watch the first episode tonight......Seems the show might offer me things that I like. Glad that you liked it.

Its important to remember it based on books so if the character died early on in the books she has to die early on in the show.

If you are going to read the story in chronological order than you should start with "The Last Wish" which is a short story collection. The order to read the books in is this The Last Wish (short story collection)
Sword of Destiny (short story collection)
Blood of Elves (beginning of novels)
Time of Contempt.
Baptism of Fire.
The Tower of Swallows.
Lady of the Lake.

It's a very confusing show. I'm having a hard time following it. I don't dislike what I've seen, but why can't they make it a little more...clear?

Apparently season 2 will only have one timeline, unlike season 1 which had 3 timelines. So it will probably not be as confusing as season 1. One reason i think season 1 was a bit confusing was because they never made it clear that it was 3 different timelines.

There’s many small details that flesh out the timelines but nothing so major as a bottom caption that reads ‘Present Day’ or anything.
