Just watched this...
Shyamalangadingdong psychological horror.
Bloke with a multiple personality disorder kind of ting kidnaps three girls, in preparation for the coming of 'The Beast'.
Meanwhile his kindly therapist tries to keep him from losing the plot.
There's quite a lot going on with histories of child abuse, etc.
I liked this... It works well as a stand alone horror in it's own right. But I've no interest in seeing the other two parts of the trilogy, and it being turned in to a superhero/supervillain thing.
7/10

I really liked it. James McAvoy is topnotch and the story is great. I actually prefer Unbreakable though, which I do recommend.

It’s a lot more psychological and the superhero stuff is just subtle. Yeah there are those moments but they’re not as blatant.

Unbreakable is really just a quiet drama with some interesting comic book subtext that becomes more threaded into the film as it goes on. But it's by no means an action movie at all. I haven't seen Split or Glass yet, but I think Unbreakable is Shyamalan's best film.

Are thos those only two kind? Or couldn't it be both? Watership Down, anyone? That children's film Antichrist? It's like part quiet domestic drama, part crime drama (eventually), but all drama. You'd be hard pressed to put it in any other genre.

Loved Split, it's a great follow up to Unbreakable and one of the best movies M. Night Shyamalan has made in recent years. The follow up, Glass, wasn't very good though.

I gave it the same rating. Shyamalan's best movie in over a decade.

I'm the opposite. The movie started to lose me with him bending through metal bars and the pseudo science behind it. Tbe revelation that it's a supervillain movie in the same universe as Unbreakable saved it.

Not bad, particularly in light of the director's soporific filmography. 5/10
