A director who despite their high profile and recognition has all but completely passed me by. My sister was a fan and I saw Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown not long after it came out and probably enjoyed it well enough at the time, I wasn't really that into film until a few years later. I just last night watched Talk to Her as it was on television and quite liked it.
I will probably check out some of his work in the new year.

I have watched all of his movies since "Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown" and the only one I disliked was "Los Amantes Pasajeros".
I don't think I've ever re-watched any of his movies, so some of them kind of blend together in my memory. These are my top 5, I think:
Julieta - 10 Pain and Glory - 10 Volver - 9 The Flower of My Secret - 9 Talk to Her - 9

Talk to Her All About My Mother Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! Live Flesh The Flower of My Secret
See The Flower of My Secret before you see All About My Mother, as the latter is based on a moment in the former.

In that case, you must see Krzysztof Kieślowski's en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_Colours_trilogy if you haven't already, to take a World Cinema tangent.

Kieślowski's another one I really need to catch up on.

"All About My Mother" is wonderful and "Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown" is very, very funny.

I think I've only seen the first two. Kieślowski's another one I really need to catch up on. Don't forget about Almodovar or Kieślowski. Loved Volver. Beautifully balanced the quite "heavy" themes with the lighter overall tone of the film.
