I exaggerate a bit, but I'm sure some of us do from time to time.
Posting on an Internet forum gives me more freedom to express myself. In real life, I'm usually one of the quieter ones. If you compared me from an online perspective to how I am in person, I'd doubt you'd be able to make the connection.
Take a glance at some of those dating websites. Now that's a prime example of fabrication.

Now that's a prime example of fabrication. i focus on being as true to my personality irl as possible because i often end up making real life friends from online communities so it wouldnt make sense if i was someone else or acting much different. if distance didnt separate us i would absolutely want to hang out with a few people from here in real life.

At my age (I'll be 67 in June), what you see is what you get. No artifice, no persona, no disguise. I yam what I yam.

Do you feel that the "person" you present yourself to be on-line is pretty much the same "person" you are off line as well ?
Yes. I can express myself better in my native language and I try not to give too much personal information here, but otherwise I'm pretty much the same person.

Do you feel that the "person" you present yourself to be on-line is pretty much the same "person" you are off line as well ?Well, yes, mostly, but since I’m not a native English speaker I sometimes find it difficult to express myself in writing. In real life I’m a bit of a goofy person who tends to make fun of most things, I also have a really dark sense of humor and I like offensive jokes, because I believe that this world is a dark and dangerous place and people can be really mean to each other, and I like to comment on that by making these kind of jokes that could be regarded to be in bad taste by some, and it can be difficult to get that meaning across in writing, making it clear that you’re just joking without wanting to hurt people’s feelings. Are you "nicer" here than you are off-line"?No, I try to be nice to everyone. I would love to be a perfect gentleman which is really difficult to accomplish. Especially since I’m a rather vengeful person. I never forget an insult and would actually prefer to pay it back to the person in question, even though common sense tells me that wouldn’t necessarily be a good thing. My first reaction is often to smash someone’s face in, when they’ve made an insulting remark, I can be really impulsive, so I almost have to “hide” my real personality to be able to move on. Are you more (or less) patient with the foibles of others here than you are off line ? Depends on the mood I’m in. I can be really impatient, if I’m having a bad day. Do you use the anonymity of the boards to behave in ways that you would never dare to indulge yourself with off line ? No, I'm just too old for that sort of stuff. Is your online "self" a complete and total fabrication ?No. I’m really a brilliant consulting detective. Does some of the "real you" show through ? Occasionally. Although I’m not even sure what the “real me” would be. I would consider myself too complex a person to be able to pin down the exact parameters of my personality. Do you view postings as being written by "real people" with feelings or just as words on a page ?The former. I would like to think that there is someone with a brain and a soul behind these words. Cool! At least now I know never to get on your bad side!

Finnish. Unfortunately I have to ruin your mental image of me, because I have typical nordic appearance (blue eyes etc.).

Do you feel that the "person" you present yourself to be on-line is pretty much the same "person" you are off line as well ? Mostly, yes. That depends. I generally mirror other people; if they are nice, I am nice. If they aren't nice, I'm not nice. I probably do that less in real life though. About the same. No, not really. I don't say anything online I wouldn't - and haven't - said in real life.
The former.

Do you feel that the "person" you present yourself to be on-line is pretty much the same "person" you are off line as well ? Mostly. I may not say as much because I never learned to type properly. My English is better online, but I speak in the vernacular of my area. I hope I don't come off as too serious because I enjoy the humor in life.
Are you "nicer" here than you are off-line"?
About the same.
Are you more (or less) patient with the foibles of others here than you are off line ?
More patient here because I find it easier to just ignore them. "Sometimes I don't mind the little things." - Point of No Return (1993)
Do you use the anonymity of the boards to behave in ways that you would never dare to indulge yourself with off line ? If so .. why ?
No. It's too much of an effort for me to behave differently than usual. Once on the Pit we had "Sockpuppet Day" where we made socks and tried to guess who everyone was. Mine was SockRayBleu. I only made a few posts before giving up.
Is your online "self" a complete and total fabrication ?
No. Well... except I don't look exactly like my avatar.
Does some of the "real you" show through ?
I certainly hope so. Excuse me for a moment...
Okay, I got that out of my system.
Do you view postings as being written by "real people" with feelings or just as words on a page ?
All of them are from real people with feelings. That doesn't mean what they say is true. Some of them just behave poorly.
I REALLY REALLY miss Sulla .... he was wise and funny and refreshingly smart !

I'm pretty much the same in real life, except that here I can actually complete a sentence, or an opinion, without getting interrupted.
