Lucas said JarJar would be prominent in the prequels and those that didn't like it would have to get used to it.
Then he was sidelined.
It happens.
The idea that the artist does not take feedback from others is just nonsense.
Especially in a case like this where she was added specifically for diversity's sake.
At least JarJar was meant to be a cool alien (the plan just didnt work out).

That is an important role in fiction and real life. Also Jar Jar could have been the ultimate evil of the sequels in form of Darth Binks - the circle would have been complete, a historic failure on Disney's side. Jar Jar was never meant to be cool, he was modelled after Disney's Goofy and Buster Keaton.

Jar Jar was never meant to be cool, he was modelled after Disney's Goofy and Buster Keaton. Cool in the sense that it is unique looking and at the time was somewhat of a spfx advancement (this was before LOTR so a major character in the story was entirely cgi).

I think Rian Johnson owes her an apology for the way he wrote and used her character in Part 8. Unless there's actually a purpose to her presence in the film (which there was not in part 8) then JJ wouldn't have been doing her any favours by giving her a bigger part in this one.

The problem with her character wasn't her race though. Put a white or black actress in the same role and she's still a pointless character who's in far too much of the film, a film that was meandering anyway.
