IMO, Victor Mature was excellent in "Sampson and Delilah" and "My Darling Clementine" as well as "Demetrius &nd the Gladiators". Though he is not a favorite actor of mine by any means, I always thought his performances fit the bill.

Ha I don't like Victor Mature either. Vincent Price said he was the biggest coward-he refused to do any of his own fights no matter how small.
Another Widmark film I watch now and then, THE LONG SHIPS.

Richard Widmark was born on The Second Day of Christmas in 1914, the last kid in a long line of kids in an Italian family, but the nice Widmark family, who were neighbours, adobted him, thus he got a Swedish-American upbringinging, and his blondish hair made him fit in. More than thirty years later he would become famous for throwing a wheelchair bound woman down the stairs. A man whose smile you could never trust. Richard Widmark 1914 - 2009
Widmark appeared on Broadway in 1943 in F. Hugh Herbert's Kiss and Tell and in William Saroyan's Get Away Old Man, directed by George Abbott, which ran for 13 performances. He was unable to join the military during World War II because of a perforated eardrum. He was in Chicago appearing in a stage production of Dream Girl with June Havoc when 20th Century Fox signed him to a seven-year contract. Here follow examples: Kiss of Death 1947, earning his only Oscar nomination, as Tommy Udo The Street with No Name 1948 Road House 1948 Night and the City 1950 Panic in the Streets 1950 No Way Out 1950 Halls of Montezuma 1951 Pickup on South Street 1953 Hell and High Water 1954 Broken Lance 1954 Mystery Guest on What's My Line? 1954 The Tunnel of Love 1958 The Alamo 1960 Cheyenne Autumn 1964 The Bedford Incident 1965 Madigan 1968 Coma 1978 Against All Odds 1984 True Colours 1991, became his screen farewell. ...and many more! Thanks for watching! Madigan felt like it was ahead of itself a 1970'esque movie set within a 1960s world basically.
