This thread is still going on? The topic/thread usually resurfaces about once/year but is essentially just a repeat of the last time. The poll results are surprisingly even and probably reflect generational differences. An interesting variation would include like/hate/don't care along with age brackets (0-30, 30-50, 50+ or so). I’m 33, and I suppose when I was in my twenties tattoos were all the rage for millennials.

Some people get them to cover bad skin and no one has perfect even skin. Everyone has a mole and most of us have birth marks. More importantly I doubt anyone with a tattoo thinks they’re ruining anything unless the tat is messed up. But you are. I mean, these tattoos consist of car paint. Furthermore, a tattoo means a chronic inflammation on your skin.
My best friend worked at the local general hospital and she always had stories about people who had trouble with their tattoos.
If they don't think they are ruining anything, they are simply being ignorant.
How about qualifying your statements? Some ink has pigment in it that could be used in car paint. Some tattoos cause chronic inflammation. What’s ignorant is suggesting that people who get tattoos are ruining their skin because that’s what you think. You’re entitled to feel any way you want about it but that doesn’t make your opinion fact. Of course your friend sees worse case scenarios, she works in an ER. Some people have problems and some don’t but like everything else in life doing research before you get one goes a long way.

Not so much any more as full employment and changing times means that employers can't be so choosy. Most UK police forces for example are now okay with them as long as they are not neck or face or hands. It still happens and it's going nowhere.
Most respectable jobs simply do not accept visible or ugly tattoos at all.
I'm only talking about the UK and it's perfectly acceptable here if non hands face or neck as I say, anything else can be covered up if necessary. I will take your word on the US. As Jill says it's ok in Germany too then perhaps the US is just behind the curve being a more conservative country.

That is what tattooing does: Cause a chronic inflammation.

Most people with tattoos don’t get that. When you get one, you’re supposed to use (I think, it’s been over 20 years since I got mine) antibiotic cream and keep it covered for a few days, so you won’t get an infection. I got mine on my 29th birthday, on Hollywood Blvd. I don’t regret it I’m the least, and usually I forget I even have it.

Is that still a thing? I mean, unless you have them on your face? Of course it's still a thing.
If the tattoos are covered and they don't discover they don't care but if they discover you have tattoos or you have visible tattoos then in respectable and important jobs they will scrap you.
Bullshit. I work for the biggest hospital system in my state and the medical staff are allowed visible tattoos and piercings as long as they aren't offensive.

Tattoos are so common. Some of the most tattooed people I've seen are celebrities, actors, athletes, especially MMA fighters, football players, soccer players...
I would even say if an employer doesn't know you have a tattoo, finds out later and then tries to scrap you for that reason, that's a lawsuit right there. A lawsuit I hope the employer loses because it's not reasonable.

I have loads of tattoos. I don't like all tattoos though. Just like I don't like all sculptures or all oil paintings. Saying 'I don't like all tattoos' seems as strange as saying 'I don't like all oil paintings'. You don't like a medium of art? Sucks to be you I guess. Also, most people who say 'I don't like tattoos' don't have any. They know they wouldn't like it in the same way that children know they won't like a food they've never tried before. "I have zero lived experience with that but I will denounce it anyway.' It doesn't matter if it's the most beautoful picture ever as a tattoo. People who don't like tattoos simply think it looks really stupid having permanent pictures in the human body.
Monna Lisa is a legendary picture, however it does look really stupid and out of place in human skin.

Even in the UK (I have family and friends there) and in Germany (I have friends thjere) respectable jobs do not accept people with visible tattoos.
If people who have tattoos have all of thgem covered then there's not gonna be a problem unless if your boss suddenly discovers you are filled with ugly and disgusting tattoos in your body. That may be problematic in many cases.

It may happen in your case (even in your case there are obvious limits) but in the vast vast vast majority of the cases that doesn't happen.
And surely in the vast majority of places with doctors they do NOT let doctors using visible tattoos at all.

I've had ABBEY1227 blocked for some time now, does he still have his Woody Woodpecker tattoo as his avatar? I never put any thought into that before but just realized he's probably not a fan of 3rd rate classic cartoon characters, but rather it means he's a peckerwood, aka dumb fucking cracker and proud.

Pure rubbish what you and the other woman are saying. In the vast majority of places with respectable jobs they refuse people with visible tattoos. This is an undisputed fact. When I said "scrap you" is if you have a deadline employment contract, they will not renew with you and will get someone else. This is reality whether tattoo lovers like it or not.

It's lame though. It's lame where it's true because tattoos don't affect your ability to do your job. You're also talking about visible tattoos, but a moment ago it was tattoos previously unseen, then discovered and used as a means scrap/not renew your contract. It's a short-sighted decision by a short-sighted employer. The tattoo never got in the way before it was noticed. You don't have to be a tattoo lover to know that's a foolish reason to let someone go.

I'll teach you how it's done:
Now you just went full retard.
Thanks for teaching me something I already know. Anyway, stop projecting your issues with tattoos. I am sure your realize that getting your lower-back butterfly was a mistake, so just get it lasered off, and stop obsessing about ink.
