alfromniPurely mathematical in this case, albeit somewhat based on a similar kind of principle… That may lead you somewhat astray, though, as it has nothing to do with letters or words.

16,1 & 4 Starting with 1, square each number and then add the digits in the answer.

November 18, 2017 Ok riddlers, 2 poetic riddles. alfromni What am I? #1. Dare trespass my threshold? Don’t dream you shall flee; The strongest, the swiftest, cannot evade me. I’ll seize you and crush you and wrench you apart, Though no one may gaze on my singular heart. #2. Dipping, glinting, gliding by, Rainbow-fretted, wrought of breath. I live only while I fly – Earth’s rough kiss my sudden death.
Thinking now possible #2 - clouds ?

BATouttaheck - Clouds a good guess, but wrong. Each poem has a different answer.

Haven't tackled #2 yet. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Right on the money, with the one caveat that hook can also work for u (along with v, y, and w); those five are the five English-language vowels.

NalkarjYes, I thought about the vowels, but wasn't sure. #2 is proving troublesome. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Hi, brimfin— No, not that. For our purposes, you can count “Bailey” as the last name and “Irving” as a middle name—à la “Arthur Conan Doyle.” A very good guess, though.

Earlier today, I was talking to @forceghostackbar and (because I just have nothing better to do with my time than to talk in riddles) asked the following curious question:
“How do you solve a problem like this reversible, human news-gathering Québec island that has Batman’s surname and plays hockey? I mean, what’s the connection?”
He seriously responded, “It’s a trap!”
He was right. What were we talking about? (This one’s awfully silly.)
