brimfinOK, let's see... My first thought was something having to do with "behind bars" because one could mistake the confessional grate for "bars" (I suppose...), and Jeremy puts criminals on the other side of cell bars, but I couldn't make it stick. So!
Jeremy could be the policeman who arrested someone and Jimmy the prison chaplain, but how would Jason fit in, then? The teacher whose student was arrested by Jeremy? The in-prison teacher (by which I mean a teacher who teaches inmates in prison, not a prisoner who teaches other inmates)? Nah, because what would have been on the paper in Mme. Zolga's vision, then?
I'll keep thinking about it...

brimfin - Hows about this ....? Firstly the timeline: 1st visit to medium - Oct 6 1970 2nd visit to medium - Oct 4 1995 The medium foresaw a calender, and a newspaper, both dated Oct 5 1995. The latter displayed an old picture of the family and carried the headlines: --------------------------- WHOLE FAMILY ARRESTED AT CASSADAGA AS BEING HEADS OF NATIONWIDE DRUGS CARTEL.
Priest, Teacher and Cop (Jimmy, Jason, and Jeremy, (full names withheld)), all involved and arrested with parents while Shirley and husband (full names also withheld) were combining business with a family pleasure trip. It's understood that other coordinated police operations around the U.S. are ongoing---- [MORE TO FOLLOW ON THIS SHOCK REPORT].
[Florida Gazette Oct 5 1995]---------------------------- i.e. Shirley was two days early for her 2nd visit.

brimfinI suppose that what I wrote was not on the right track, then? You had already concluded that you weren't on the right track. Had you been going in the right direction, I would have let you know.

Some clues may be in order here. 1. The origin of this riddle was actually a joke I created. It was based on seeing something commonplace in the present day and thinking - "What would someone in the past have thought if they saw this in a future vision?" Bear in mind as a joke, it is mildly exaggerated but still plausible.
2. The occupations of the three boys are irrelevant. I could just as easily have said they were all accountants.
3. The riddle would not have worked if it was set between 1985 and 2010 instead.

Tomorrow's my birthday. After that, I'll give you some more clues. You'll be amazed at how simple the answer really is.

Salzmank, alfromniThanks for the birthday greetings. Now, here are my clues as promised. 1. Think of a term associated with prison. This may be the most common one of all. I'm not talking about an alternate term for prison but a term used with prison.
2. Use that term to associate with something we have today that we didn't have back in 1970, but was in common usage by the 80's and even moreso now. You both likely have one near you at this very moment. Good luck.

brimfinRe Medium Would this have anything to do with cell-phones, or as most call them in the UK "mobile phones" (or simply "mobiles")?

brimfin "Brothers all given cells," or some such thing? Can't imagine a headline based around cellphones.

SalzmankSorry, I peeped at your spoiler... The story didn't mention headlines, just something read. Could have been a large advert about cell phones, which the medium misunderstood.

Yes, you are figuratively right on top of it. Now what would you typically find written on a note on a desktop?

brimfin Ah, well there you have me. I have no idea. As I'm virtually chair-bound and have a landline within reach 24/7 I don't have a cell-phone. I've never used a cell-phone and never needed a cell-phone...as yet. The only desktops I have are the one on my computer and the one my computer sits on. I can play you a Beethoven sonata or some jazz on the piano, and do many other things too even in my limited capacity, but I can't use a cell-phone.
